| I am very interested in getting into an X190 for the season but was also considering a used Ranger perhaps 2007-2008, considering they are in the the same price range. What would make me want to buy a Tuffy instead of the ranger. If someone could help me with some pros and cons that would be great

| Hull design and strength, customer service is great. They look better and I think they go faster.My best thing I like is when I'm smashing into big waves I know the hull can take it. Thats with my 1890 or my 1700. Tuff boats. | |

Location: Northern Illinois | I agree with what was said above and I will add that you get a much drier ride IMO in a Tuffy. I also love the layout better. Get the Tuffy, you will love it!

Why a Tuffy? Hmmmm................
Well first I would say go for a ride in one, that is what sold me first, dry, smooth and fast. I have been some other brands in the 20'+ range and the 19' Tuffy rode smoother
2nd... Fit and finish, granted the Tuffy doesnt have all the chrome doo dads a Ranger does, but it doesnt have the price tag either.
3rd....Really could not find any one to say anything bad about them, there where some issues with a few older models, but from what I gathered the factory took care of them if justified
4th...The parent company Fiberdome is extremely stable

| First of all... what a great Dilemma to have!
I really was in the same boat you are now this winter (bad pun, couldn't resist). I was trying to decide on an X-190 and a used Ranger product.
You will probably spend less on a used 2006/7 Ranger 619/620 Ranger... but you will be buying a used boat. You might save more if you are looking at a used Ranger Bass Boat...but the X-190 deep V seems hard to beat. Enough "V" yet still close to the water. If you can find a 619/20 Ranger with all mechanical/service records, and you KNOW it was very well maintained...that still would be a great choice. I would still have the hull checked by a professional.
I just felt the price of the Tuffy was hard to beat and I will be able to make sure the boat is properly maintained and it will never be abused.
Tuffy has a great reputation for sales and service with a rock solid mid-west company backing it. The dealer and the people from Tuffy have simply been wonderful to work with. My X-190 is the first new "new" boat that I have purchased since 1987. I'm looking forward to the delivery date on the 15th of May...
For me, the X-190 was the right boat. Good luck on making the choice that is right for you.

| The X-190 is the best layout for musky fishing I've ever seen, period. That alone should be enough to sway you. I've fished out of Rangers, and they are very nice, but not as functional layoutwise. Your boat is your number one fishing tool, the more you fight your boat the less time for fighting fish.
The new rig will have full warrante protection for years to come in the event you have a problem. With the used boat you don't have that. I don't care what the name on the boat or motor says, all brands have problems of some sort. No, not every single one, but some will, and you just might be getting that one whether it is new or used.
Getting a new one will let you customize it exactly the way you want it, not the way someone else thought was good. How do they know what you need? You shouldn't have to change your fishing to match the boat, the boat should fit your style.
Last is just conjecture on my part, but from all I've read on the forums, the Ranger will need more horsepower to perform as well as the X-190. More ponies to feed means less $$$ to buy more toys. My X-190 with an E-TEC 200HO is very efficient. It's almost 40% better than my old 18.5' deep "V" Alumacraft with a 150 Johnson Fast Strike and only 100# heavier hullwise and 150# heavier motorwise with the kicker included.
The only drawback my X-190 has is that it doesn't do as well in really big waves as a deep "V" aluminum boat like I had before. It's hard to keep the X-190 on plane at very low speeds with a 3 blade prop and slow planing is what you need in the really nasty stuff. I'm trying a 4 blade prop soon so that might make it better. Can't comment on the Ranger as I haven't been in one when the waves were 4' or higher. If you are going to be in big nasty waves on open water most of the time, then an X-190 is not what you want. An 1890 or 2060 would be more appropriate then as the have more freeboard. I don't make it a habit being out in that nasty stuff, and will avoid it whenever possible but I do get stuck out in it on ocassion. The X-190 will handle it safely, don't misunderstand me that way, but it just isn't much fun when the wave tops are head high while sitting in the drivers seat.
