How do you all feel about this fish being reinstated as the world record?

Well, if the debacle the Hall has pushed re: the wr muskie is any indication, and Dettloff is involved in this one too, it's bunk.

Just found out what/who was behind the reversal.

Steve,

Go to freshwater-fishing.org and read the entire story by John Dettloff himself. This reinstatement is obviously meant to weaken the WRMA's case against the Spray and Cal Johnson record muskies. The WRMA can no longer claim the walleye record was disqualified due to photo analysis.

This record being reinstated must be very disappointing to former Minnesota fisheries biologist Dick Sternburg who convinced the former regime at the NFWFHoF that this fish could not possibly have been 41 inches and 25 pounds. Read his article "Walleye Record Hoax" in the June 1996 issue of Outdoor Life magazine, pp.66-67 and judge for yourself.

I try very hard not to read anything Mr. Dettloff writes, gives me heartburn. The Hall doing anything unilaterally isn't going to change what those fish were.

The Hall needs to remove Mr. Dettloff from his position of influence. His crusade to install/retain a couple obviously wildly exaggerated muskies as records, dumping the New York fish for less evidence than the WRMA has provided, and his ownership of a resort on the Chip and books he is selling on the subject creates a situation where the Hall's credibility can be and is called into question. It appears the Hall has allowed some of it's credibility to be criticized as little more than a PR front for some Hayward area businesses.

It's truly amazing that Mr. Dettloff would see to it that this walleye record be reinstated and yet refuse to reinstate Art Lawton's muskie. Evidentally he feels he's the ONLY person capable of doing reliable photo analysis!

Another thing I find truly amazing is that fishermen in general aren't totally disgusted with his behavior. Unless we as fisherman express our dissatisfaction the "Hall" will NEVER remove him from his position of influence.

This walleye record reinstatement was delivered to the public in news papers all across the country. The media seems only interested in what Mr. Dettloff has to say and they refuse to get involved with anything put forth by the WRMA. It's time we as fisherman band together and make our voice heard.

hmm? follow the money thats all i hafta say. who is going to build the thousands of replicas or has rights to them and controle of display locations. i just hope there is a freak fish swimming somewhere that some little kid catches on a worm and snoopy pole that will put the argument to rest! on the musky side also. the record walleye would be a dream to any walleye angler and the chances are slim enough without having to top an old photo. the musky guys are the ones who it hurts most as all they seem to fish for is the big one. walleye anglers fish for the dinner table more so than a trophy.
