Location: Rhinelander | The conditions are near perfect as far as weather goes this morning, but reports are the water may fall a little faster today then yesterday, effecting some who are fishing where there's usually no water at all.
Everyone WalleyeFIRST talked with this morning wasn't overly confident their fish would hold; even the leaders said the fish are on the move and hard to track, but when one finds them, the bite can be fantastic for short periods of time.
Look for a better bite today for some, and not as good for others IF predictions from the teams hold up.

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Johnson and Rhoads took a zero yesterday when they couldn't get back with over 24 pounds of fish. That had to hurt big time. |

Location: Rhinelander | The bite was definitely off today despite the predictions of a better bite this morning from some of the teams. Most of the difficulty seems to be in finding fish today, as many of the teams reported their fish 'were gone' when asked for a report onstage.
Dennis Lantzy and Steve Vande Mark weighed 15.08 today to take a slight lead over Johnny Candle and Dave Noble, who weighed 9.6 today. Limits are key, and a kicker the difference in the lead at this point. Steve Stack and Kevin Dahl slipped to third, just shy of 4 pounds out of the lead.
In fourth are the New York Team Nate Capton and Dave Waldeck with a weight of 13 plus, putting them 3 pounds and a little out of the lead. Fifth is Jeff Manz and Greg Yarbrough about 5 pounds back.
The rest of the top ten
6) Gary White Jr.and David Siegele
7) Maury Schmerbach and Marty Berns
8) Dan Zwick and Tony Kobriger
9) Chris Clemmons and Bob Hausler
10) Scott Aydelotte and Tim Harms
Tomorrow looks to be a little warmer, with easy winds and plenty of sunshine. As the Mississippi continues to fall from flood stage, the bite will remain somewhat unpredictable.

Location: Rhinelander | The final morning of the MWC Championship seemed more like early September than mid October as the Fall continued to behave more like late summer. The temps were in the 40's before sun up and are forecast to get into the low 70's today, with an increasing wind ahead of a front coming through beginning tomorrow.
The River fell substantially last night; a factor that some teams felt would help, and others were worried about. In morning interviews, the leading teams indicated the techniques they intend to use today, covering the entire gamut with the exception of hand lining. Candle and Noble are pitching Cranks, and are limiting themselves to a couple spots that are holding good fish. Lantzy and Vande Mark are using several techniques, and both teams feel it's literally anyone's game who's currently top ten.

Location: Rhinelander | Candle and Noble WIN!
Johnnie Candle and Dave Noble were pretty confident this morning their bite would hold despite the fact they were fishing a couple smaller spots and had a very specific presentation in play pitching cranks.
| Morning Video: | http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/watch.asp?id=3014
They brought a 12 pound plus basket to the stage to easily take the win as the rest of the field struggled to put a limit in the boat.
Capton and Waldeck moved into second, Yarbrough and Manz took third, Schmerbach and Berns took fourth, Lantzy and Vende Mark slipped to fifth, and Aydelotte and Harms rounded out the top six.
Johnnie had a rough time talking onstage, telling the crowd his Father called and told him it was unlikely his ailing Grandfather would make it through the night. He dedicated the win to his family and his Grandfather, talking then about his first career win...the 2010 MWC Championship.

Location: Rhinelander | Congratulations to Johnnie and Dave, great job under tough conditions and for a 'first win' for Mr. Candle. OFM has been pointing a camera at him for many years, and it's good to see him in the winner's circle. Also, congrats to the top ten, and all who made the Championship!
Look for an interview with Candle and Noble by our OFM radio Host Thomas Allen soon. |
