very good news. I've discussed this with the NY TBF pres. He said it was a hot topic at the last national meeting.
I may have to start a walleye club now here in NY...

I'll be doing a lot of research to see if this is a fit for the La Crosse Area Walleye Club. The sentiment is in the right place, I just have to get more info on how it will work to see if it's a good fit for us.

my biggest concern is insurance. here in NY you need to get an application for using a ramp for a tourney. with the APP, you need to include proof of insurance for your club. If this TWF deal includes this, would be good. Saves a Hassle for a club to raise money for this... My 2 cents - any walleye club should join. TBF has a meeting here in NY sometime soon and I'm gonna listen in. will drop the pres a line right now and see what he says...
Komo, me and the banshee make 3... NYTWF...

I just spent a few minutes at the TWF website. lots of answers there. need at least 12 members... online rosters. insurance for your club. lots of perks through cabelas and stuff. Too much info too early in the morning. My biggest concern is $50.00 membership which I don't think think includes FLW membership. that would put it around $80.00 per member. I just paid my TBF dues for the year and they were $60.00 which included my FLW membership.
$80.00 (don't quote me on that!!) is pricey. here in NY guys are pretty tight, squeaky tight... They also want stuff done before jan 1st which is just 3 weeks away (for cabelas team stuff I guess). that might be good for you guys out there but here in ny, nothing. site look good.
gotta go

I'm a little confused as to what this group would do for me as a competitive angler, walleye club member, walleye club, etc. Can someone nutshell it for me? We are talking millions in collected dues if even half of the walleye clubs and members, etc. pay up. Is a true advocacy organization, and how will they improve/create/etc. 'great walleye fishing'?

I get the members only store, but spending $50 means I have to up front save 20% on $250 spent to get that back. Do the magazines interest you enough to pay the fee?

Is the insurance a 'deal'? I know what several events I work pay for similar coverage, just asking others who might know.

I'm a life member of the North American Hunting Club, did that years ago.
The magazine is good, but the benefits for me ended there. This sort of looks like the same concept, but as an angler perhaps the benefits will be more expansive. Thoughts?

Is this organization going to work with the NPAA?

I have been advocating for this for years. I always felt that bass clubs had a big advantage because of the two possible (orginally one BASS) sanctioning/affiliation organizations, BASS and TBF. Now, walleye clubs will have the same benefits. It appears that right now the Cabela's NTC is the "big show" and the MWC is also going to be a venue for top club teams. (I need to read and digest more.) I get the impression that this aspect will eveolve i the future.

As far as benefits and cost; here is a quote from their website;

"your annual TWF membership is THREE yearly memberships in one! (1) TWF membership, (1) FLW Outdoors Walleye membership and (1) North American Fisherman membership! "

So, no, your FLW membership will not be an additional cost.

Clubs will have an insurance benefit.... "Full insurance will be provided for every TWF club/trail, officers, and events. (check out the insurance FAQ link on this website) Currently, 1MM General Liability coverage, 10K ADD event coverage and 25K excess medical coverage for all TWF club sanctioned events."

This is a great opportunity.

Just my opinion, but it seems its great for clubs, but what about the rest of us who do not belong to a club, and still want to get involved? Is there anything for us, or is this just geared toward clubs only? Little confusing - please clarify. A buddy and I are planning on fishing the MWS and maybe a couple of Full Throttle, so would they be considered clubs that we are involved in?

As a club president I can also say I'm not sure all clubs fit this mold. Our club has about 30 members, but there's maybe 6-10 of us that want to fish in tournaments. Most of the anglers in our club are either new to walleye fishing or just wanted a place to learn a little more and talk to other anglers.

For example, we did a club outing to Lake Pepin and had about 20 people show up. The next month we did a club tournament on our home waters of pool 8 and had 8-9 people show up. It will take us a couple years to get members to want to pay for the tournament benefits. I wish it wasn't that way, but that's what's happening here.

It seems to be a money maker for the FLW, not quite sure that the 50 bucks i spit out will do a dang thing for most people. I think I will pass.

This is not a grassroots effort or formation as far as I can see. It does appear a little more like a profit making mechanism for a few companies. I would defiantly look this gift horse directly in the mouth to make sure.

Steve, as far as the insurance goes, I've been treasurer for a few clubs and costs for insurance can be pricey. Of course that is here in ny. if you start a new club real ugly. member dues 50/50 money, end of the year awards, newsletter, Insurance was taking up time and patience. This would take care of it in a one shot deal. perfect, no, but easier.
Still early to tell about this. After the awful work day I had, I would be crazy to start a club, I can barely type.
I've been a big fan of FLW stuff over the years, but they do get to your wallet at times. same goes for B.A.S.S. too.
Won't get away from it.
great input here from everybody.

well IF I read right, I already will have to pay 35 for my FLW membership, of which is included under the 50, so it's 15 for what other goodies they may include, so for that I think I may try it out.

Just as a side note on the insurance, a club can have a General Aggregate: $2,000,000/Each Occurrence: $1,000,000 /Personal & Advertising Injury: $1,000,000 coverage for a three day event with under 350 people in attendance for a premium cost of $135...$100 if it is 100 people in attendance or less. This coverage is good for all 50 states and I use the company for my large event.
