| picked up the 6 03 MXF st. croix legend tournament jigging rod. have a pflueger supreme XT 9030 that i picked up last year. debating wether to move this to another rod and buy a new reel. any thoughts? for some reason i think the 9025 pflueger supreme (the ultra light model) would fit this rod better as its lighter and i'll just be using it for jigging. that said, the 9030 model is pretty light. anybody else have this rod and what reel balances well with it? thanks. |

| Have the same rod with a Quantum Catalyst PT10 reel. |

| I'd go with a daiwa exceler HA. Can be had for $80 and no other reel will touch it for that price.
PS, i'm like you, threw out all my shimanos 8 years ago and haven't looked back |

| The Pflueger Supreme would be an excellent choice, and although a little small for situations that call for a little more line capacity such as casting cranks or rigging, the size 25 (9025) would be the ticket for vertical jigging. I use Spider Wire Stealth 10/2 - which has a 2-pound diameter and recently, I've been spooling this up on Pflueger's size 20 (a size smaller than the 25's) and talk about light! (Out of necessity, I robbed these from my ice fishing rods)
I also have been using Pflueger Presidents - one of the least expensive spinning reels they make - but a great value! |

Location: Berlin | I always get a kick out of the guys that buy a $300 rod and put on a large reel for jigging. I always use the absolute smallest reel allowable for the type of presentation like Tommy said. Light rod + light reel = a very light sensitive set-up. A bite on this set-up will feel like you were struck by lightening. |

| Are the Pflueger 20's equivalent in size to a Shimano 1000 series reel? |

| Wolfeye - Due to my ignorance of that particular model/brand - I don't know the answer to that question! But what I do know is that the Pflueger 20's are plenty small enough for ice fishing reels - yet have a big enough spool with the capacity to carry enough superline for vertical jigging. And they are one of the smallest spinning reels I have seen on the market that is big enough to get the job done! |
