Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I came to W this morning expecting the place to be alive with posts about the rumor that Lake Erie will be closed this spring to walleye fishing until June 1st. Also heard that part of the Detroit river will be closed. Supposedly, Ohio, Michigan and Canada all signed a pack. The reason is the low population of walleye. A drop from over 100 million to under 60 million.
Has anyone heard about this? |

I have been reading some posts from another board and am just waiting to find out when the states will actually have a ruling. So far I was under the impression that Michigan was the only state considering the closed spring season.
I have fished Lake Erie in the spring, and always enjoyed going around the first weekend in May. Closing the season until the end of May seems too drastic IMHO. Never caught a Walleye with spawn or milt in it at that time of year - they where all spawn out by then.
One question I would have is - would the Canadian netters also have to honor the closed season????

If that were true, then the RCL would not have been able to get a permit to have a tournament, out of Port Clinton, in April.
The limits may change, but they won't close it.

Location: shawano,WI | Juls is right,I checked the Ohio and MI. DNR sites and found nothing about it.Do you think all the charter boats would let that happen, they would all be out of work. |

| The ohio Dnr website says there dropping the limit from 4 to 3 fish.March 1st to April 30th after that it goes to 6 fish with a 15 inch size limit year round. |
