Location: Rhinelander | It's hot out there. At 7 AM it was already 73 degrees heading into the high 80's to low 90's with extreme humidity, and that warmth has effected the bite according to the Pros.
Mercury Pro Gary Parsons feels the bite is off enough where decisions which fish to keep will make or break it to make the cut. He mentioned the best trolling bite is south, and a number of the near full field are there. It's a 4 to 5 square mile area, and the fish are moving quite a bit, so literally searching until one locates a pod of fish and staying on them will be the key.
Lund Pro Ted Takasaki was optimistic and felt the bite, though not as easy as it can be on the Bay, would produce plenty of big fish. JJ Keller Fishing Team pros James Keller and John Schneider both indicated the bite was good, but spotty, and making the right decision as to which fish to keep and having the fish come in the right order will figure strongly in who makes the cut.
The debate whether the big fish that were available on the Bay in the past are still there seems to be going strong. Most of the Pros WalleyeFIRST talked with feel there are opportunities for big fish, just not as many as in the past.
The weigh in will begin this afternoon at 3 P.M. Due to the nearly full field, it may take a bit longer to get a full report up than it has in the last season, so expect to see videos and images from the weigh in beginning about 6 PM.

Location: Rhinelander | The heat didn't totally shut down the bite, as three Pros brought in over 30# and a good number of 25 to 30 pound baskets crossed the stage. From the talk behind the stage in the weigh in line, everyone had to work very hard for a limit today. Several stories of swinging for the fence and tossing back 20" plus fish early were told, and the leaderboard reflected those after all the weights were rung up.
It's a virtual Bay of Green Bay Dead heat between the top three. Ryan Dempsey holds the lead by an ounce over Gil Mollet, and 5 ounces over Marianne Huskey. Dean Arnoldussen is less than a pound back, and Gary parsons just over a pound. The top ten averages 6 pounds per fish...so a dead heat for the top five is reality.

And tune in tomorrow on the FLW website for the live weigh in. The production is high quality, and is enjoyable to watch.
After tomorrow the field is cut to the top ten, so those pulling 27 pounds 10 or more will be trying to at least duplicate that weight or better it to hold position. A bad decision on what fish to keep when, or plain bad luck in the order they come will for certain cause some exchanging of places in the top ten, and there's an excellent chance some of the top twenty could move up if they find the right pod of fish.
This is a shoot out all the way.
