Anyone have any tips for the western basin? I traditionally musky fish but since I live so close to Erie I would like to get into the walleye more this year. I have a pro v so my range is not that large and waves really dictate my fishing location. Any info would be great such as lures and methods. Thanks and I look forward to sharing info with you all.

If the water temp is over 50 start with cranks and work the 5-15ft down depths. I like Reef Runners, Deep Thundersticks, Down Deep Husky Jerks, and Deep Jr Thundersticks. S-turn while you are trolling and keep trolling speeds at around 1-1,5 mph. If the water temp is over 50 switch to spinner/crawler rigs. I like #5 blades and 1 oz inline or snap weights. Adain try to present the baits in the 8-16 ft zone. I would stat off Niagra Reef and work from there. Do you have a marine radio? The charter capt. talk can help narrow down location . Good luck!

I bet water temps are up there already, so spinner rigs should be good to go. I'd start around the north side of Kelly's. Look for fish on your sonar, note the depth and how far down they suspend. I'd always have a rig with a deep cut polished gold #5 out, and work with other colors to establish a pattern.

.9-1.4 MPH. Go with the waves. It's easier. If your kicker won't idle you down that slow, put the big motor in gear, or if needed, toss out a couple drift socks off the front cleats. Or if you vane a TM with atuopilot, use that to pull you along. If you don't have AP, lock the TM and steer with the big motor.

Good info so far, what do you specifically need to know? Spinners will be ruling the bite starting in the next two weeks, keep it slow .8-1.3 once may-june roll around 1.3-1.5 is standard. Gold, Copper and Chartruse backed blades all work well, chartruse, orange and pink beads all work well feel free to get creative with those colors and mix the 3 up.
