Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | IMHO, no real surprises in the top 6. I was surprised with some in 7-10.
Glad to see friend Scott Allar receive the recognition.
In the world of "what have you done lately", I was very surprised with one name on the list. I'll have to do some homework and see the success this individual had that I was not aware of.
Good job, Zach............thanks

Frankly I was surprised by some of the names too, and when I looked at the data for those people it then made sense to me. I think part of that is that we get caught up in wins, and remember the winners, and maybe the Top 3. If someone finishes in the top 3 you hear their name, if not, you don't. It is very easy for someone to quietly have a very good year.
Another thing to remember is a person can win a tournament, and bomb the remainder of the year, but in your mind that guy had a great year since so much hype is attached to the win. Every tournament counts in this system. There is no hiding from the bad ones. |

I'm not sure why anyone would want to see a BCS for walleye pro's. Just like the BCS, there simply is no fair way to do this, so why try?
That said, I have to question a name or two that appear on the list. I mean no disrespect to any of the anglers on the list, as they are all infinitely more accomplished than I am, but... If you only fish the bodies of water you are familiar with and don't fish an entire circuit, is that really a fair comparison?
Remember, you started this, not me. |

Glad you did Brad, and you have excellent points.
But it looks like this formula is based purely on a mathematical equation based on tournament finishes. And Zach has also chosen a proper name for his new tournament angler evaluator. If he had chosen to call it, "Worlds Best Walleye Fisherman", I think we would be debating this until the cows come home!

We don't mind having the model questioned, it will only make it better.
To answer your questions, the complexity and issues surrounding the BCS are way more disjointed and interpretive than the WWR. There is so much crossover between anglers on both of these circuits that, mathematically, they are very easy to compare.
Body of water familiarity. Doesn't really even enter into the picture. The majority of fishermen on both of these circuits have fished the same bodies of water so many times that they can be considered home bodies of water to all of them. |

| Ok, I guessed Keith so pick my name already! I gotta hit the sack and rest up at work for these 15 hour weekend workouts!!! Or did I just jinx myself?
Way to go Keith you had an excellent season along with many others. Zach thanks for all the hard work, will this get published in other places as prominant as WF???
Good Luck

We are, of course, going to make the World Walleye Rankings available to anyone anywhere. The top 200 rankings will be here, easy to link to from anywhere else on the web. We will also send out press releases, and make certain the Walleye world is aware of the 200 ranked Pro's standings in the WWR.
We have the support of the tournament organizations for on-site coverage next year so we will be covering the top anglers as they hit the water. WalleyeFIRST will be adding many details as Zach is ready to do so. |

The folks on Walleye Central are sure buzzing about the results. Lots of controversy and debate will make for a hot message boards this winter!
Yippee!! |
|
|
|
| Well, they aren't buzzing about it anymore. The thread on Central was locked just as the converstation got interesting. Paranoid. Must not have cared much about your post. You had a good point. Too bad, guess we will have to talk about the rank system here instead. |
|
|
|
| OK So does anyone know why it was locked? If it was to set the stage and keep it at number one with the comments to date, I think I can understand, but banter is what keeps it entertaining, after all thats why were all readin' this stuff anyway right? This just reinforces the reasons not to like WC...
Good Luck |

Location: La Crescent, MN | I wouldn't worry about it too much, probably an overzealous moderator. Let's not turn this into a WC bash, we are all friends with those guys over there.
On to the rankings, we do have an update to the rankings coming up, one which will correct some errors in finishes for 4 of 5 different anglers, and also includes Mike Gwizdala, who was incorrectly listed as having less than the minimum # of tournaments to rank (brother Mark was erroneously credited with a few of his tourneys). He cracks the top ten.
We've also added some graphing to the individual angler listing page. If you list the top 200 and click on a name, you will see the finished plotted out. Red represents an out of the money finish (defined as top 35), brown is in the money, and green is top ten. It provides a pretty nice visual representation of performance. We are also working on some other views of the data, which we hope eveyone enjoys.

| Post on WC is not locked anymore. Zach, I was wondering if you are going to keep this a running total, or always limit to the past 2 years? When this season is completed, will you then recompile leaving out the 2002 tourneys? |

Running total at all times for previous 2 years. Results will be recompiled after every tournament. We are going to add a feature where the standings will be able to be viewed over any time period, just for interest.
