Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | It a shame. It is awful hard to get fans excited when the FLW releases them 12 hours before take off and no set time for AIM to release there list. Come on guys, listen to the fans and get it kicked into gear. The fans aint went anywhere, many are still here, but we stepped off to the side to make a face in disgust. |

You are correct, how dumb you sound, for sure. |

| Sounds like 16k for first. Not too bad given 29 boats.

Location: Rhinelander | Don was 2 minutes late on day two. He would have won handily. I believe many would have headed home knowing they were totally out of the game, but Don stuck it out, took his Co Angler fishing, and SMOKED 'em, setting a new AIM record of 70.2 pounds. He handled the situation as professionally as anyone I have witnessed on and off the stage, and that's saying something. Immense respect for Don. |

| So why were there only 29 boats fishing this?
I saw guys like Pat Neu and Tommy Skarlis fishing the MWC this weeeknd on Bago. |

Location: Rhinelander | I'm not sure. Maybe worry about the bite, which was the best I've ever seen; perhaps lack of familiarity with the headquarters town of Lorain, perhaps the drive and fear earlier of high gas prices...who knows. It happens. The event was well attended, the city support excellent, and the bite unreal.
Pat is not fishing as many majors as he used to, and I think Tommy had locked in the MWC trail early with his partner.

| Good insight Steve, I know Pat is fishing with his Son and his Wife more so maybe keeping it close to home. Good for Pat.

Location: La Crescent, MN | I don't get real hung up on numbers like some people do, esp for AIM events. The tournaments are just as exciting.
One real eye opener for me the past several years, being at countless PWT and AIM events (and more recently, BASS) is how good these guys are. I think that fact has been lost over the years, how skilled the core group of traveling AIM (and FLW) pros are. It's a completely different type of event than a large derby like Merc, Otter Street, or an MWC. It's literally a showcase of the best of the best, an elite event.
The only thing that would make it more interesting would be a closed period and strict information sharing rules similar to BASS, and a short prefishing window, something like R Eberly has been preaching for years. Problem is, there are 10-15 guys that would be really, really hard to beat in that type of format. |

| Why is 100+ boat field for a PRO event considered the minimum acceptable? Over half of that field are donators, and not a threat to win. I think I said some time ago that there are probably less than 50 anglers you could consider a threat to win any tourney and any time. So why not pump up those 50(or fewer) Pro's, promote THEM, and get the big payouts from sponsor money, and not have to rely soley on entry fees for the purse.
I think the PWT Super Pro format attempted that, but it failed. Not because of the format, but because the PWT was already on a downslide that it never recovered from. AIM is a great format, but they need bigger payouts to attract the best pro's. Right now, all of the best are not fishing the AIM events.
I'm very interested in how the GB AIM event turns out. |
