Location: Shawano, Wi. | I need some advice from someone who's already gone through this. I have a 2008 Merc 50hp 2-stroke on a 15'7" 1994 Smoker Craft Resorter. 50 is the max hp. There is some weight in the boat: 4 batt'ys, 11 gal fuel tank. I'm running a 15p aluminum right now. Tach is broke, but I may actually need a 17p. I heard you should go up 2 pitches when switching to stainless. ANY help would be great. Just trying to get EVERYTHING out of my rig before I break down and get a big-boy rig. |

| Why go to stainless your running a 50hp and the difference will not be enough to warraant the cost the blades will handle the load and if you hit something its not so painfull to replace |

| First get the tach fixed or replaced, easy to do youself. next make sure everything else good, plugs, gas, filters etc. then use the tach along with GPS to assess the best performance. A good Merc place should let you try props for a small charge, if not free. Your all around performance will be affected by load and weather. Keep that in mind when picking a prop. Don't just go for speed... Also a 4 yr old motor can be a little "tired".
I am not familar with props for a 50 so I cannot help. keep us informed with the results, I would like to see GPS results, with your current prop and a few stainless. this topic has come up before. |

Location: Shawano, Wi. | Got my tach fixed, and ran the 14p stainless this afternoon. Around 5500 wot...max rpm for motor is 5500. Forgot to bring my 14p aluminum, so I don't have the data for that yet. I have a 36v Maxxum on the way, so this 15'7" aluminum boat is gonna have 4 batteries and a 9 gal gas tank that carries 11.4 gal of gas. I may have to go to a 13p. We'll see. I didn't really pick up top-end speed, but the handling was a helluva lot better. |

| You may want to consider one of the new Mercury Spitfire 4-blade props, they are pretty much made for better performance our of smaller boat/motor packages. Much less expensive than stainless, and I would bet that you'd see better performance than stainless. We've had GREAT success using them. |

| Once you get that tach working then we can talk.
I think with all that gear strapped to that poor little boat you should just upgrade!
Remove the HDS7 the HDS10 and your new HDS8Gen2 and the 36V bow mount and slap it on a 18'-20' boat with a 150-200hp motor and you should see an increase in speed. LOL
Before anyone jumps on me too hard for harassing irunnike87, I know him personally and we are good friends. I have been helping him look for a new used rig to fit his style of fishing. So I can poke fun at him a little.
BTW nice profile picture... most people have Walleye in the pictures. Again just teasing buddy!
