I usually post this poem I wrote last year about a week before christmas on some of the other boards I visit. I plan on doing so as well this year. It lasts about 4 or 5 days on their main pages before it is eventually pushed back just in time as Christmas season ends. I thought I'd put it up here on this site earlier as threads seem to stay up longer. So it will work it's way down by the time the season ends. Read it like you would "The night before christmas" poem everybody knows.

"Twas the night before Christmas, and all across the Bay"
"The shanties were lit up, from guys wanting to stay"

"The tip-ups were set out, and poised very near"
"It's (FISH-ON) us anglers were waiting to hear"

"My Do-Jigger had settled, as my arm started to ache"
"And suddenly a RED band appeared, on the Ol' FL-8"

"My heart beat had quickened, and my hand started to shake"
"I let the lure hang motionless, while I awaited the take"

"With the sag of the rod tip, and a snap of my wrist"
"I drove home the trebles, in the jaws of the fish"

"Her struggle was valiant, with sharp bends in the pole"
"But with slow steady pressure, I worked her into the hole"

"Her girth was impressive, Her length 30 or so"
"My buddy looked shocked when I said, "I'm letting her go"

"Think of this buddy, before we call it a night"
"Tomorrow's Gods birthday, and I want to start it off right"

"I've caught plenty of walleyes, and taken home more than my share"
"I'm giving this one back to Him, I think it would only be fair"

"So back down into the hole, and under the ice"
"Now swim away swim away, and give someone else a good fight"

Happy Holidays to all.

Steve.

Feel free to pass it on to whoever you wish. I'd like to reserve the right to post it on the Walleye Central board again this season though. Kinda my present to all the guys I've grown to know and like there.

Express,
That was by far one of the greatest poems I have ever read. My hats off to you. By the way, you need to go back to IcefishingFirst and see that the guys were screwing with you.....Keep posting, you have a lot of experience that should not be wasted.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Troy.

Thank you for your compliment. It's easy to write, talk or make up poems about something that is part of who you are. Participating in the outdoor sports was where my father shared most of his love for my brother and I. He also threw in many of lifes lessons we would need in our own lives during these outings.

As for the Icefirst board. I realize I may have been hasty and even thin skinned. Also, now realize you guys were just having fun and I hold no grudges. But was innitially dissapointed when instead of a greeting on my very first post, I got chided. And then again on my second post.

I've always been a carefull man, make friends slowly and watch ahead for trouble. Rather this instinct/habbit has served me well or not is up for debate. So far I like this board, hope to share fishing info and make some friends here. But for now, will take it slow and keep my plate uncluttered. Hope this is understood and not taken the wrong way by your board users.
