| I know this is early, as open water now months away, but wanted to educate myself anyway. Have a fried that wants to upgrade from a 12 volt unit to a 24 volt unit - looking for additional thrust. Question is, will his boat's factory wiring accomodate a 24 volt system, or is there retrofitting required? What does a guy look for to know. Thanks for your expert advice! xxl. | |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Most boats allow for both 12 or 24 volt systems. It depends on what boat it is. Usually to just requires a different wire configuration with existing wires and changing the plug at the receptacle. Look at the battery storage area and see if there are some wires there that are not being used and/or check the boats owners manual. You could also go the boat manufactures web site and post the question or check the specs if it’s a newer boat. | |
