Walked out from Vagabond west north west in 27ft of water. My buddy and I landed 8 fish 20in. or bigger the biggest being 30in. This was sat.from 6 to 4.The ice was 7in. and there were 4 wheelers out.I used a Nils Master (the rapala kind with the long hook),and he used a pimple. We also had lots of small walleye one perch and one northern.

H & T

Heading up to my buddies after christmas to fish Black Lake. We caught 21 walleyes there in 1 1/2 days last year about this same time. He also runs a business in Newberry and we might take a day to fish LBDN. Neither one of us has heard of Vagabond West.

Are you heading out from Kipling Boat launch? Is this place near Second reef? If you don't want to share this info on this board no biggy. I'm not enitrely sure I'd be giving pinpoint locations to a found hot spot either. But even a rough idea would be appreciated.

Vagabond is a campground up by Rapid River. I'm sure someone will be able to tell you exactly where it is, it's a pretty popular access spot.

Sorry that I ran my sentence together. We were off Vagabond on the east side the same one everyone uses. We walked out west north west.It was a 10min. walk.Almost every fish had to be played with to catch.Sometimes 3-5min.Minnows heads hooked on also helped.

Follow hy 2 through Rapid River,When you go over the whitefish river take the first right, it comes fast.Follow that for 4miles or so, but Im not sure. You will see a sighn for Vagabond just past a campground sighn.

Thank you to many, Tot. If things don't turn out the same this year at Black as last year, odds are we'll put in some squat time on Little Bay.

Tot.

Still a little confusion. You must be coming from the West down Hwy 2 versus my coming from the East. As if I turn right after whitefish river, I'm heading away from LBDN. Plus, after looking at my Hot Spots Map I'm seeing that a 10 minute walk from shore with 27 FOW being close by, would have to be done South of Co. Road 513 and Garth Point. Going to take a look at my county maps book for a closer look though. Thanks again for the info Tot. Downloading a picture of LBDN for your reference. Seems Center Reef is the only spot South of rapid River with 27 FOW withing 10 minute walking distance.

Ya, I'm sure it looks like I'm fishing for that alright. But I'd be just happy knowing the baseball field he's playing in. Knowing the exact base he's on isn't neccessary.

I often tell people that I'm catching fish 23 to 25 FOW in the Black Hole on Saginaw Bay, and I am. But that takes in a fairly large area. But gives anybody a decent starting point.

You are correct, I think it is old 513.Im coming from the Kipling side.If you look at your map,Vagabond Resort is actually south a little of what you are showing.I would be glad to give gps cord. but forgot my handheld. If my partner brought his I will see if he punched it in.Im guessing but I think we were straight east of the 21ft hump that is below center reef area 11 only closer to shore.

Thanks Tot.

I figured you might even be a little more south than what I encluded on the map, but had to enclude Rapid River for reference point. I had to do some sneaky stuff just to copy what I did, as they make it tough to do such things on the HS mapping software.

If I/we get over/up there I'm thinking it won't be till first week in January. Saginaw Bay is going to freeze late this year it's looking like. Planning an open water trip this coming Saturday on the Tittabawassee, because we're in yet another above freezing weather spell now.

Need to get somewhere with ice to do a shake-down on my gear before serious ice get's here.

Tot.

Looks like we'll be up there the 3rd or 4th of January. One day on Black and one on LBDN. Life is rough hey? Any more up to date info on ice and fish before then will be welcome, thanks again.

The last time I talked to Trap(A.K.A. It's Trap's Life), he will be heading up there on the 28th. He should have a good report for you. I hope he doesn't mind me volunteering his report.

Good luck Trap and be safe.
