| Ok this has been bothering me for at least since summer and I need some opinions, be honest please. Ok so me and three friends decide to go perch fishing on Lk Michigan in August 2012. It is decided that we will take my boat and my truck. I fill up my truck, I have gas in the boat already, each person buys own bait and beer and what not. My buddy Eric brings his anchor, mine are too light and I know this in advance. His anchor is a ritcher $125.00 anchor. day starts of calm, as day goes on wind kicks up but still fishable. ancher stops holding us on the spot. So I decide to add a 50ft piece of nylon tow rope i keep in my boat for added lenght. This solves the problem of dragging. We are achchoring off front cleat of boat in the bow. Buddy in the front the entire time. its decided we need to move, I come from console of boat around my buddy and pull the anchor, I drive the boat to the new spot and ask my buddy to deploy the anchor, which he does, but he does not check to see if the rope is still secure, rember, i added a extra piece of rope, when I did this I new it was too large to hold properly on cleat and made it know to all we need to keep a eye on it, Rope is not tied to cleat, anchor gone. Who's responsibility is it to replace the anchor?
Mine im the captain
buddy who deployed without securing
all of us equally
other options
Thanks Kannon | |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | I pay up-front for all of the days provisions, but expect anybody who enjoys my boat and gear that day, to chip in equally for gas/oil/bait/ice/food/beer/pop and any other things bought that day for that days enjoyment by all envolved. The catch that day is also split equally if/when decided by all. Most often mine is donated to the guy who fishes less. But IMV Things that are an every day part of my boats operating equipment, it's placement and operating condition is (on my boat) my sole responsibility. But if we add or modify anything for the benefit of everyones enjoyment on my boat that day and we loose or destroy it (no matter who's fault) that should be replaced by everyone with equal shares of the cost. And like Rich said. If that isn't understod by all, the trips rouster will be changed next time around.

| If I threw an anchor in and it wasn't tied to the boat, that's my fault, no one else's, and I would pay for it because that is a really stupid thing to do.
If your friend is too stupid to realize it was his fault, then you have to do what you have to do to keep the peace.

They should share gas costs.

Location: Oshkosh, WI | It sounds like the anchor rope was tied to the cleat, but not securely. You mentioned this earlier, but after the move your buddy threw in his anchor, did not check the rope and lost it. IMO: The guy who put the anchor in is 100% responsible. If I lost my anchor under those circumstances, I would not expect you to pay anything. If I was you, I would offer to pay for half - unless the guy is not really a friend and is being a big jerk.
If it is my boat and I am operating it and wreck something - it is on me, if it wears out while it is being used, it is on me. If you do something dumb and break/lose something, I would expect that you would at least offer to pay for it.

| I would have been all over that, the second he realized the anchor was gone! hehehe
Did he share in the cost of fuel for the day?
If yes, then I'd offer to help pay, but I probably wouldn't go halvsies. There were 4 of you on the boat.
If no, then I'd say you're probably even.
How big was this Richter? I don't recall them being $125, even for the 25 lb.

| Ah, shipping.
No on gas? really? At least the kids will appreciate the time on the water with you, and pay you back in more ways than gas! Have a great summer.
Take lots of pics of those fish with kids! Or the kids with fish! Either way, you're already ahead.
