| Chris Marx (otherwise known as eyegobye on WalleyeFirst), Steve Banovich, and I had a very good day before the last of 2003, jig-fishing LBDN. Again, we walked on the ice out of Vagabond Resort, this time stopping well short of the mile my last trip up.
The only difference between trips was my catch this day improved to a keeper 16", and a nice 10" perch!
Otherwise, Chris and I were outfished by Steve, who jigged-up the most gorgeous 28 inch walleye, a fat 20 incher, and then caught a good 6 pounder on a tip-up. For a guy who hadn't ice-fished one day last winter (attending to his yeast-ladened wife :-)), he certainly had the Midas Touch!

Yes, the inner-bay has very solid 8-inch ice (check out the picture "PerfectWalleyePose!). We saw 4-wheelers traveling over a wide area north of Kipling. However, I only know that the ice is good from Vagabond, as that was my entry point both trips.
If you go on the bay from another direction, be sure to follow in some other's tracks!

Ok, just spoke with Pete Huibregtse, who talked to Mark Peloza of Hawg Heaven Gudie Service last night. Pete told me Mark has seen open water with-in the inner-bay near Kipling.
Consider yourself forwarned. If you are smart, stop and talk to the girls at Bayshore Bait $ Tackle for advice on ice conditions. Better yet, here's their phone number, 1-906-428-2950, and Mark, 1-906-428-3809.
Please be aware! |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Oh-Oh Rick.
Now you did it. You unwitingly exposed the magic Rapala color with that great through-the-hole picture. You might want to contact the Rapala people. They might want to buy that picture. Very nice shot. And that's coming from a guy who has a few pictures of his own.
I'm going to try and beat it though, when we hit the Bay two days this weekend. |

Location: Collins, WI | Congrats on all the nice fish you guys caught. That picture with the fish in the hole is beautiful. So, it was a 10 O'Clock bite eh? That glow tiger rapala catches a lot of fish out there. Good to hear the walleyes are still cooperative. Thanks for report, Trap |

Thanx Dan, Trap. Yes, also think that picture is a great shot. Had to push past Chris into the tent, then stretch my arms out over the hole. Wasn't sure if I got a good picture, but the split second the camera button was clicked down turned out to perfection. |

| I have to agree Rick, that IS a terrific shot! Very nice. In fact, all of them were pretty darn good. You're getting better and better with that camera mister. Keep up the good work.

Location: UP of Michigan | Hey Rick: Nice pics. Why didn't you have that camera last year when you pulled the biggest eye thru the ice on LBDN I have ever seen guiding on this bay. Yes I know you will blame me for leaving my digital hone that day. Yes I am still kicking my self. See ya on the ice soon. As far as the ice conditions now that the temps have been low the last two nights the open water by third and fist reef should be safe. But still use caution.
