Flashing For Fish

Its that Trap's fault.

In the past I've ice fished without a flasher, and was happy to be working at finding the level the fish were at in the water column. But that Trap Guy showed me how you can see at what level the fish are at, on a flasher. Then it was eyegobye & Bano following this experience up in loaning me a unit to use on a trip out with them.

Now I'm hooked.

So I have a question. This site is advertising the MarCum Flasher on the front page of this site. Does anyone own one of these and can give a testimonial on its performance?

I've never used a Marcum but have heard good things about them Rick. I've got a Vexilar FL-8 and won't fish without it. Had it for 8-9 years and still works like it's new.

I've fished side by side with that unit and they work great. You can zoom in at any level you want. It's a great unit. I'm happy with my fl-8 for the last 10 years. The new models have brighter color than the older units, but if your in a ice house it isn't a factor. When your out in the sun the newer units are easier to see. You just gotta have a flasher!

Rick.

Ya gotta get a flasher for the ice. It is way more than a benine piece of equipment that just shows you that there is a fish in the hole believe me. It teaches you in a hurry through succes or failure, rather your working the jig to hard, fast, slow or just plain wrong. Also reveals bad spots when you wonder if they are down there looking but not biting, and hightens the excitement and gets you ready, when you know theres a monster looking over your jigging choice. Can't say enough about the FL-8 I've been using for about 4 years now. Don't know enough about the other choices to give an honest opinion.

I was using the new Marcum last week Tuesday when we were up at LBDN. Although it didn't seem to help me much that day, it is a nice unit. I did manage to catch a nice 28", 8 pounder on Sunday morning though. We were fishing south of the Vagabond, near where that open water was along the East side. I'll post a picture as soon as I figure out how to extract it from the camera. You're more than welcome to use mine for a day or 2 and try it out. message me and we'll arrange it.

When using my flasher on ice charters on the Saginaw Bay, I'll try and locate the FL-8 as centrally in the middle as possible. When I do mark a fish, I announce "Fish in the Hole", kinda like "Fire in the Hole". This tells my clients to be extra alert and consintrate on whats happening a little harder. All of them so far seem to like this a lot. And I think Vexilar has sold a lot more units as well. I know 4 of my old clients since seeing how they can help, have bought one since their trips with me.
