| How can Bruce Samson, the number one all time money winner in pro walleye fishing (Ranked by the NPAA) be listed as 80th on the World Walleye Rankings? It seems that Bruce's only downfall is he has been at it a long time. (17 years)

Location: La Crescent, MN | In the World Walleye Ranking system, all tournaments count over the previous 2 years, not just the good ones. Emotion, lifetime statistics, or the amount of money a single pro tournament pays out do not enter into the equation. It's not a measure of impact in the industry - just pure performance in all tournaments over the previous 2 year span.
Look at the ratio of money to non-money finishes for the graphs below and it's pretty easy to see the differences. I guess I would call Samson a home run hitter. From a money earning standpoint, he just may have the best strategy (as indicated by his money standing) since the payouts for 1st place are so disproportionate to payouts for 2nd, 3rd and 4th etc. However it isn't the best strategy from the World Walleye Ranking standpoint, which reshapes the curve and is based more upon consistently finishing in the money.
If you based performance upon payouts, then you would have to say that 1st place performed twice as well as second place, since the payout for first is normally double that of second. Also, remember that payouts are now skewed by circuits depending upon brand of motor or boat run during the event. So, part of the money measure is based upon things other than performace in the tournament.
Also, keep in mind that these rankings will fluctuate and change following each tournament.
Thanks for the interest!

| Got it, consistency over a 2 year period is key. Keith better not take a year off - lol ! | |

Location: MIlwaukee, Wi | Are the rankings going to be adjusted according to the number of entries per tourney such as if the PWT goes to max of 100 and the RCL keeps allowing over 160?
Rick Zachowski currently rank 143rd | |
