RCL League

I'm interested in being a coangler in some tournaments. I think I'm going to sign up for Lake Oahe in the RCL series. How does the RCL League differ from the tournament? Do you have to fish all of the league events? Do you sign up as a team or can a coangler sign up and be assigned a pro?

Thanks in advance!

Less money and you will be assigned a "boater" that most likely will not be a big name national touring Pro. Most "boaters" are local hot sticks. It's an entry level type tournament.

No, You can pick and choose which ones you want to be in.

It's a draw type format so you do not know who you will be fishing with until the rules meeting. However, signing up with a boater gives you "preferred" sign-up and you have a better chance of getting in.

Hey Shep!!
Want to chime in on this one? If I remember correctly, you fished as a co-angler in the RCL League last season, didn't you? How was the experience?

I fished two League events of the three last year as a co-angler in WI. Had a great time, was lucky in the draw, and did quite well. The first event was the spring event, and I finished 7th. First boat in with a 5 fish limit, and although 3 were just barely 14", I caught the first 2 fish in the morning, and they were the 2 biggest. Spent all day in a 100 yard strecth of the river, learned a new area, and got to watch Gary Gray all day.

I didn't fish the Green Bay event, as I was out at the RCL Tour event on Lake Erie. On the 2 day tourney, I finished 22nd, and needed one more fish to make day 2. That's how close it was. Overall, I finished 24th? in WI, and qualified for the finals in Iowa. Tough bite out there, and didn't make day 2.

While you probably won't get to fish with a touring Pro, this is not really a bad thing. You'll have a good chance at getting paired with a boater that knows the water well out there. I was fortunate to get to fish with 2 pretty good guys last year in the 2 that I fished. Not sure what I'm going to do this year, yet. I may go as a boater, but then again, I may go as a co-angler again, as they're fishing 2 waters I don't know at all.
