Less costing Health Care would be nice. But other than that, its great to dream about exploring the stars. Besides, a billion could easily be wrought out of the budget if more of the noxious weeds called waste and fraud, get pulled.

| Space exploration has given the average public many modernday conveniences such as microwaves, velcro, and many other everyday things we use that we don't even realize that there origin was from the space program. The timming could be a little better though maybe after the economy and health care are addressed. | |

Location: Rhinelander | One billion spread out like this money will be would do very little for the folks who need health care and insurance in this country. Take a look sometime at our overall budget, and the monies sent all over the globe. I understand the need for what we spend here and abroad, and have become a bit numb to what the number BILLION means.
Let's say full coverage for major medical for a family of three is $350 per month. One billion would not cover the needs in Milwaukee for very long.
Spending on Space programs and Science has been pretty thin over the last two decades, so I have no problem with the proposal. I wonder if the proposal will be approved; I doubt that it will.
Another thing, when NASA gets a grant or funding for a project, that money is spent in our economy to hire scientists, build equipment, pay for studies at major Universities, contract factories to build new electronics and machines and alot more. The impact is impressive, and as mentioned, projects like this one can and do present opportunities for new products that benefit us all.
Is it money well spent? Depends on your point of view.

| I say use the money to take care of our immediate needs, i.e. health care, social security funding, ect.. If he wants to put a billion dollars in space, he should collect some of the money we are owed on all the foriegn loans we've been giving out for all these years and are not being paid back on. Some countries can't even afford to pay us the interest on those large loans, not to even mention the principle. | |

Location: Menasha, Wis. | I was under the impression that the one BILLION is per year, until we get there. Plus the President would be pulling a couple of other BILLIONS from current/future NASA projects.
Agree that the timing is not good.
Could be spending time/effort/money on:
Highways , Alternative energy, Rebuilding schools, etc. etc. etc.
These are all jobs within our borders - USA infrastructure and the future of America.
I think one BILLION would only get you a round trip ticket to the moon right now - if they pinched pennies - mabybe a Winnebago motorhome on the moon for a camp site :-).
Politican's promises - sure can tell there is an election comimg up.
I believe in space exploration, and still remember when John Glenn took a couple of laps around the Earth. Spend money on NASA, but spend it wisely.
Happy fishing to all :-).
