| As I said in the thread about resolutions for this year, I'm going to take up trolling again after not doing it for about 15 years. I'm going to Port Clinton as a co-angler, and plan on pulling my rig out with me and spend a couple days fishing after the tourney. I'm hoping to take the right tackle with me when I go out there, so..., can any of you guys with experience on on Erie suggest what I want to take. Cranks? What type and size. Blades? What size? I have rods, boards, and snap weights, but am not set up for leadcore.
Obviously, I'll see and learn alot during the tournament (thats why I'm fishing it), but I would like to go out there somewhat prepared for afterwards.

Location: Oshkosh,WI | I have a little experience out on the the big pond...my rememberence over the past couple of years tells me that the Reef Runners have produced a lot of my fish. Also, the deep diving husky jerks worked very well. Color seems to be a toss up, finding what works for the time period you are out there is the easiest. I am sure there are a lot more guys here that can give their thoughts on this....Good Luck!

| Cranks, seems like most guys fishing Erie like Reef Runners, I use them there too along with Bomber 25's. Have both deep divers and shallow runners.
As for blades I run size 4-6. Spoons might also be used but it is still coll and I would think the cranks would be best.
Colors will vary and I am sure you will still have to pick more up while you are there. Just something us junkies have to do while we are away. Not sure how far Den's Sportsmans Outpost is from there but he has the best selection of Reef Runners.

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Usually, cranks rule at that time of year. My favorites are Deep Thundersticks, Deep Jr Thundersticks, Down Deep Husky Jerks, Reef Runner Ripsticks, and Smithwick Deep Rouges. Fasvorite colors vary, as last year the bite was best on Monkey Puke, Blue w/Orange bottom, Firetiger, and Prizm T-sticks. I think this years hot bait will be the Deep Nitro Shiner by Daves Lures. The Prizm line should be good.
For blades, my best last year were 24K Gold, Nickel, and Hammered Gold. Size 4, 5, asnd 6 were best. Best bead colors were red.
For this time of year, my best patterns were around "D" can to Niagra Reef, and between A and B can. We had some awesome prefish days with fish up to 11 lbs. There were quite a few 12-13 lb fish taken too. Good luck out ther Jack and have a great time. | |
