Location: Rhinelander | We are up here enjoying the Lake of the Woods Minnesota hospitality and great fishing, despite two days of high winds and snow.
If you have never fished this area during the emerald shiner run, you need to. Fun stuff.
Ever see a Whitefish that big? Little more than an inch short of the MN State record. Keith thought he had the biggest walleye in the river on.

But yes, we are blessed with a short hook and line White Fish fishery here in Michigan that actually starts in about 2 weeks and last through ice fishing season, but they also grow big around here as well and their suculant white flesh taste much better then Shad. Not pictured, but caught one last year a little over 7 pounds. They got as big as 20 pounds in the old days at the begining of commercial netting .

Location: Rhinelander | Keith's Whitefish is the largest anyone can remember from that area at 26.5", and was a TANK. Didn't weigh it yet.
The walleye fishing was good. |

The walleye fishing was good.
Your going to find that White Fish have about the same rule of weight that a walleye does. Im guessing 6 pounds and some change for a 26.5 incher. |

Dan, you catch burbot off Tawas as well? There used to be a great run of them.
I caught about an 8 pounder 3 years back off the pier. Don't see very many there. A new Burbot fishery was discovered by us last November on the Caseville River when we were fishing for Lakers. Both runs were off the charts. My buddy fished all night one night and caught 9 Burbots on top of his 3 Lake Trout limit. He was giving them all to me until I screwed up and invited him over for a Burbot fry.
