Read about Helium-3 in the paper this morning. Its an isotope similair to the helium used to float ballons, but is very rare on Earth.
Its billed as a clean fuel source with one pound (of helium-3) having one million times more energy that a ton of coal.

The bad thing about the article is that up ‘til now they haven't found a way to produce more energy than what it uses. In other words, it's efficiency is worthless. They need to build a reactor that will produce more energy than it takes in.

I do not think you want to be anywhere near a site where cold fusion takes place! Unless you want to get sucked in a black hole or something... then your motor won't mean much anyways...:)

Location: Rhinelander | Not all that long ago it was considered absolute folly that an internal combustion engine would work well, would not be incredibly dangerous, and would be economically feasible. Scientists are great people, and are always surprising the simple folk like me. One never knows! I hope the Wisconsin project actually proves itself out, that would open up some new doors quickly. Will helium ever power my outboard? Who knows, maybe indirectly. Hydrogen? Maybe a better shot. Until then, I will fill up with good old unleaded. |
