| I have a 2014 alumacraft 185 competitor ordered with a 25 inch transom. I ordered the boat without engine,so I am trying to buy outboard but do not know exactly what will work. boat is rated for 150 and will come with Yamaha controls. Do I need a long shaft or will a standard shaft work? Can I use a standard shaft and a 6in jackplate? Is it possible to convert a standard to longshaft and is it expensive. I guess I just cant see spending 17k for new when you can buy a good used outboard for less than half. I am not a walleye fisherman, I mostly crappie and bluegill fish on ky lake. THANKS in advance for any info! | |

Location: Rhinelander | You will need a 25" shaft on the outboard. If you use a jack plate, the motor will be very low and you are likely to dunk it when you come off plane or in rough following seas. | |
