| I am just looking to expand myself to trolling for walleyes, something my wife really looks forward to since she can lean back in the seat, drink a cold one and relax instead of actively casting. Point is, I've got a lot of learning to do...
As far as the line counter reels go, I just purchased four of them. I now need to spool them, so what line is recommended for spooling? I've heard mono is best because it has stretch and less likely to rip the hooks out when the boat is still propelling forward.
I've been reading a lot of input about using Fireline, which doesn't stretch, and I'm wondering if this is the leader or the actual spool? Or should I spool with Fireline and use mono leaders? Does it matter? Input greatly appreciated. |

Location: Darboy USA | Spool up with 10# Trilene XT, then cut off a 12" section. Tie a barrel swivel of good quality onto the main line, then the small section with a #2 or #4 snap, not snap swivel. You will have the swivel there to prevent line twist and catch debris in the water and the snap will allow your cranks or harnesses to spin freely. Hope that helps. |

| Thanks for the feedback. So how does the 10lb mono hold up to the boards? I imagine after several trips the reels would need to be re-spooled, no? |

Location: Menasha, WI | The 10# XT holds up well; the pads on the clips aren't really abrasive. I rarely have to re-spool during the season.

| I run fireline and don't any issues with it. I spool up my reels with a good amount of mono for backing then 125 yards of fireline. I also run a leader of either mono or fluro. Fireline works great for seeing if you cranks are fouled up or if they are running true. I also read a lot about the no stretch pulling hooks but who really knows either way line works good. If you plan on running boards with fireline I suggest you buy different clips for you offshore boards |
