Location: Rhinelander | The MWC Championship field will leave the docks at 8AM tomorrow heading out on to one of the most perplexing yet prolific lakes in the US. the huge body of water has expanded from about 90,000 to almost a quarter million acres since the first WalleyeFIRST tournament coverage here a few years ago. Farms, highways, and everything else in the way was swallowed by the persistent rise of the waters here, yet somehow the fishing has remained almost crazy good for walleyes, pike, and the famous North Dakota freshwater shrimp fed jumbo perch. The lake is not known for 'trophy' walleyes, but the population is massive and there are some good fish to be caught.
The wind and weather has been a bit brutal during the pre-fish, but the forecast tomorrow calls for a cold start in the high 20's, winds to 9 MPH out of the NW, and sunny conditions bringing the temps up to the low 50's. Not balmy, but a heck of allot better than it could be this time of the year.
Friday looks great with another cold start, light winds, and highs about the same. Saturday the wind returns at 22 mph out of the SE with clouds coming in and highs near 62. The bite is ON, so the weigh ins should be fun to watch!
The field holds some extreme talent, so there's not 'favorite pick' from this quarter tonight.

Location: Rhinelander | It was brisk out there today, but no one was complaining as the field left the docks at 8 AM, because finally...the wind is down to a manageable level.
Pre-fish has been good and reports of some respectable weights despite the huge winds were plentiful. Lead core, jigging, and casting cranks looks to be the techniques in use the most. Berkely Pro Korey Sprengel intends to use Flicker Shads as his go to presentation today, but called today 'another day of pre-fish in a way' due to the fact this is the first time the winds have been down enough to get out and look around on some of the water they want to hit.
The average comment the total weight required to cash a top ten check is about a 3 pound average and a limit every day.
Weigh in starts at 4 PM, and the field is in the middle thirties, so watch for a report at about 6:30.

Location: Rhinelander | BIG weights came across the stage today. Looking back at the 2013 Devils Lake NWT in September remembering the comments from the locals that the weights would be better later in the Fall....bingo.
24 pounds was THE big bag. Today, it took almost that much to make the top ten. 55.91 won it last year, and there several teams on track today to hit 72 to 75 pounds total.
Troy Morris and Kevin Bruer weighed in 34.02 pounds to take the lead. Their biggest fish was over 10 pounds at 29". The pair were using jigging Raps, and were fishing all alone in an area they said the never saw another boat fish all day. When asked if they thought the bite would hold, they both said, "Definitely!"
Diegel and Steffen are in second with 28.07 where things bunch up a bit. In third are Dorris and Tordsen with 27.11, fourth are Preissner and Olson with 26.05, and rounding out the top 5 are Holten and Stuefen with 25.08.
The weather tomorrow looks stable with a front coming in Saturday, so the bite should hold up well. The field of 38 boats leaves the docks at 8AM. MWC Leader Board
