Location: Ontario, Canada | Looking at buying a new pair of glasses and was wondering what lens color is the best ?

| I think, and I might be wrong, that color is more a matter of preference. The important things are polorized, and UV protecting. If you do any smallmouth or muskie fishing where you need to see into the water, you should diffinetly get the absolute best polorized lens you can find. Many times while guiding, I have clients not know they have a follow going because they can't see the fish, or don't know just which boulder to pitch to because they couldn't see the fish below the surface more than a couple inches. |

Oh, and as for the original question...
I like Amber as an all around color for my glasses, but I do have another pair with yellow lenses for cloudy days. The yellow really brightens things up, and comes in handy while driving the boat on days like that.

As sweet and positive as you are, I would have thought you looked at the world through "rose colored" glasses every day!! 
You're older brother could learn a thing or two from you!

| I used to buy the el-cheap-oo at wally world. A few years back a buddy let me wear his Maui Jim glasses and after a couple hours I was converted. Now I have both Maui Jims and Costa Del Mar. By now means are these cheap, that's for sure. But you only have one set of eyes. Like JDLII says for sight fishing they really need to be polarized and UV protected. I know everyone's eyes are different. For me I like the amber or dark amber lenses. One thing for sure is if you end up buying a high dollar set. Buy a good lanyard to go with em. Location: Sth/side Chicago | Ok, here it is: I'll start by saying having more then one pair of polarized glasses is a good idea if you can afford to get more then one. Overall I feel Amber is the best all-round use color as it is good for low light and works fine with me in bright sun. Costa Del Mar has a color called Sunrise yellow, a color like that is really best used in low-light conditions. Your greens and grays seem better for bright conditions but not as well for low light. Mirrored glasses you have to see what the base lens color is, Costa Del Mar used to have blue Mirror lenses with a Amber base, the latest ones I have seen have a Green base. Brands I reccomend are Costa(I bet you couldn't tell,right?), Revo H20, Maui Jim, Ray Ban, and Bausch & Laumb. From what I understand(and I could be wrong on this) both Costa Del Mar and Maui Jim have their roots in fishing with their founders. |

| I have to agree with just about all the responses so far. I, too, like the amber lens for all-around us. Yellow for dark days. I really don't have much use for grey lenses, but they supposedly work better in dingy water. I haven't found this to be the case, though, although they do cut glare on bright days a little better. To me sightfishing without polarized (amber) lenses (especially in clear water) is like sightfishing in the dark. As a side note, they help me to see how well a fish is hooked when it comes to the surface, before it gets netted (sometimes changes your strategy if you see a fish that's not hooked good;)). I wear polarized lenses for all outdoor activities-even for driving, golfing, etc.

Location: Sth/side Chicago | I was re-reading this one when I remembered another lens color I've used. Vermillon(another costa color, not sure if all companies would have it), It is a little darker then Amber, and lighter then Green or gray. I tend to use it when it is sunny or partly sunny. |

Lens color
