Location: Theresa, NY | Hi Guys (and gals), being a new guy to this, am looking for your advise. I have a 17' Lund Mr. Pike with a 90 Merc 4 stroke, wife bought me a 9.9 Merc 4 stroke kicker electric start. I have already asked for and got advise on the fuel hookup with the 90, now question is should I have additoinal control hookup for starting, gear shift, throttle etc for the 9.9, or just use the tiller steer and throttle control manual when I want to troll with the 9.9. What are most of you doing out there? |

Location: blue mounds,wisc | its your preference, i like to be able to manually steer the kicker myself.this way you dont have to turn the wheel. also i like this because i can turn faster manually.you can get an extention for the tiller handle from cabelas or bass pro. then you can easily reach to steer and run the throttle. |

Location: Neenah, WI | If you plan to handline or back troll you'll want to use the tiller handle. I currently steer with the wheel but as Larry said, there is more control with the tiller. Before mounting the kicker check for handle clearance with the transom. I believe with your boat you would mount it on the starboard side.
Another thing you might want to check into is a Trollmaster. It's a throttle control for fine tuning your trolling speed. I have one and think it's money well spent. About 200 bucks. |

The Troll master is what you want. I don't have one yet, but have been in other boats that have, and I will have one on my boat this year. Precise throttle control. Much better than using the tiller twist on any model. I troll both at the tiller, and at the wheel, depending on situation. I have the Goldeneye link. Easy on, easy off. |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I'll second the TrollMaster. It's one of the best investments in my boat. It'll take care of your speed control and eliminate the hassle of going back to adjust the trottle on the kicker. You can micro-manage your speeds easily to the tenth of a mile. It usually cost about 199 bucks.
You may also want to think about a connecting rod from the main engine to the kicker. Get one with a quick release and you have the best of both worlds. You can steer from the wheel or the kicker depending on the situation. They usually cost about 45 bucks. |

I will vouch for that TR-1 AutoPilot Machine. It was the biggest single reason for our (my partner is Pete Huibregtse) MWC success fishing the LBDN and Lake Pepin events.
It allow me much freedom towards fishing instead of having to keep my hand on the tiller or the steering wheel of the boat.
Whilst most guys battled the wind and waves trying to boat fish, I just set the pad down and allowed the Golden Pilot to take over the steering of my boat!
