| SIDNEY, Neb. – It’s official – walleye anglers qualified for the 2004 Cabela’s National Team Championship can put Escanaba, Michigan, on their summer travel plans. The 3rd annual Cabela’s National Team Championship will be held in Delta County on Bays de Noc, near Escanaba and Gladstone, on June 11-12.
“With 30,000+ acres of fishable water and a legendary walleye bite, Bays de Noc is the premier site for the 2004 National Team Championship,” said Eric Banks, external relations coordinator for Cabela’s. “Qualifying teams will find cooperative fish, friendly people and an atmosphere like no other in Delta County. Cabela’s 2004 National Team Championship is destined to be the best yet.” The Delta County Chamber of Commerce, U.P. State Fairgrounds, Bays de Noc Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Downtown Development Districts of Escanaba and Gladstone will host the event.
“The entire community is very enthusiastic about hosting Cabela’s National Team Championship,” said Vickie Micheau, executive director of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce. “With nearly 200 miles of freshwater shoreline, anglers are guaranteed a great experience learning the secrets of Little Bays de Noc. This time of year you can expect the walleye to be hungry and feisty.” The community will also host Destination Delta tours, lumberjack shows and other activities for anglers and their families and fans. “The community will roll out the red carpet and do everything we can to provide a positive experience,” said Jalene Polkey, local tournament coordinator and chairperson of the Delta Chamber of Commerce.
Building on the incredible success of previous tournaments, the 2004 National Team Championship partners 44 walleye tournaments, circuits and clubs across the nation in a true national championship format. “Our 2003 event was an overwhelming success,” said Banks. “Anglers and fans alike agree the National Team Championship is the premier event for walleye team anglers.” The 2004 tournament will gather anglers from 30 states to compete for cash, value-added prizes and the chance to be named National Champions.

| Greetings Cabela’s Anglers!
We eagerly await your visit to our community. With a phenomenal fishery extending beyond more freshwater shoreline than any other county in the United States, we can almost guarantee that your fishing experience in Delta County will be an enjoyable one!
Anglers have long known that the Bays de Noc are the places to fish. Now come and enjoy our Delta County hospitality. Bring the family along—there’s plenty to do for you, the angler, as well as for your family and friends.
In the near future, we will have information on our website about activities planned for your enjoyment. Including relaxing tours offering a visit to some of the finest shops and eateries Delta County has to offer. Please contact the Chamber if you are interested in participating.
While we’re on the subject of eateries, we often refer to our Delta County restaurants as an “Avenue of Good Taste.” Sample offerings from fast food to gourmet dining and everything in between—Swedish, Italian, Mexican, and genuine UP home cooking.
For lunch, anglers will receive and enjoy a flavorful and filling pasty—a Cornish meat pie that is a meal in itself, and definitely an Upper Michigan tradition. It’s also an easy take-along lunch on those pre-fishing days or a quick meal on the road.
The downtowns of Escanaba and Gladstone and the Delta Plaza Mall offer a wide variety of shopping—from antiques, to unique gifts, books and original art. Parks abound, with tennis courts, sand volleyball, and playground equipment for the little ones. The Sand Point Lighthouse, Delta County Historical Museum and the restored iron-smelting village at Fayette State Park offer a glimpse into the history of our area.
If you need additional information about our community, please contact the Chamber at Commerce at 888-335-8261, www.deltami.org or the Bays de Noc Convention and Visitors Bureau at 800-433-4FUN, www.travelbaysdenoc.com. Both organizations will be delighted to provide advice or assistance on most any aspect of our community. We’d love to be able to help!
