Did some more checking on these motors, and the price starts at......$18,500 and with the modifications to the boat, set up, you're looking at $20,000 for the motor. Is it just me? or is something really wrong, with having to spend that much money,to clean up the water?

Now we know why Mercury is sueing the Jap companies for selling there motors to cheap. I'm all American at heart but..........
It would be nice to be able to aford a new motor some day. At this rate I dont think that will happen

Price of the motor includes the power steering and throttle controls as an entire system, so no extra's to buy such as hydraulic steering. Also price of these motors has nothing to do with the Mercury vs Jap motors. It's all about a responsability to the Mercury employees, suplliers and motor owners like you and I to make sure fair business practices are met. If it was frivilous the US courts would have thrown it out already instead of voting unanimously to proceed to investigate.

Hafe, you hit it square.

The whole process is come about through the Clean AIR Act. 2006 is when the rules are ratcheted up such that alot of the old style carburated motors will not be able to be sold.

In California, there will be credits given to the manufacturers. The cleaner the engines, the more they'll be able to sell.

So the question truly is; How much are we willing to pay for cleaner air?

Shortly we will find out!
