Location: Manitowoc, WI | What are your favorite ways to fish Winnebago? Are you, for the most part, a jig fisherman or a troller? Does it vary by season?
I enjoy trolling as it tends to be the easiest way to put numbers of fish in the boat. But, I love jigging. I grew up jigging perch on Lake Michigan and enjoy working the shorelines pitching jigs in shallow water. I plan to spend alot of time exploring the shallows this year on 'Bago as I think it's the least understood water we have out there.
Due to this year's PWT, I hope to find some good lake fish in the prespawn mode this year, which means I will probably jig or slip bobber reefs.....just another thing to learn out there.

Location: Menasha, Wis. | I am alot like you Jerry, really enjoy trolling - it is very relaxing for me when I am recreation fishing. A real nail biter during a tournament and I have lost the school, or they decided to ignore MY baits.
Have jigged the shorelines with limited success, but always give it a try now and then. Pound cranks against the reefs, but sure is hard on bills and leaders.
Happy fishing to all | |

Location: Neenah Wi | I'm with you 2 trolling puts the numbers in the boat for me too.But drifting with jigs is fun too.Slip bobbers on occasion over the rocks.

Location: Omro,Wi. | Casting shore-lines,when the eyes are coming back from the spawn, has to be the most fun.Two feet of water at noon is not what most anglers think about, but it sure does work! Next I will pick,hand-lining cranks, over points, and reefs, then comes jigging edges,in the river or on reefs, with trolling the mud, as last. Something to try this summer,is finding a school of fish,in the mud,and using slip bobbers,on them.(like in winter) Way more productive than cranks....hafe

| First thing I usually do is head to a couple of my favorite reefs, anchor and put out a couple slip bobbers and then take about a 1/8oz jig put on half a crawler and cast it out and let it go to the bottom and then start dragging the jig. This usually produces if walleyes are in the area.If this don't work after about 30 minutes I then pull up steaks and head for the windward shore and start trolling or casting crankbaits. This type of fishing for me is very successful. You may not get the biggest walleyes in the system but you'll usually end up with a nice meal of walleyes. superdav | |
