| Friends and members may not be aware but WFT is finally able to run a Sauger hatchery again on the Winnebago system after a few year hiatus. This will have a new twist from before, the Sauger are being stripped on the North Shore of Winnebago and the hatchery is being run up the Fox river in Berlin.
Today was a good start 94 Sauger netted, 90 males and 4 females. The egg total was about 100k so far and the Sauger were reported as very fat and healthy. Unfortunately not many small Sauger were caught which is why the hatchery is so important. The fry will be released in Berlin and hopefully genetically imprint and come back there to spawn in time.
Please remember to return your tags into the DNR for all tagged Walleyes caught.
We will keep you posted! | |
