Location: West Bend WI,53090 | I'm buy a new mercury 9.9 fourstroke and I'm wanting to put a trim/tilt on it not shure if I should go with the mercury trim/tilt or go with the panther lift? I have a fisher fx18dv boat.I heard some bad things about mercurys units not shure it is true or not? Could use some help. thanks | |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I've used both the Panther and the Mercury Trim amd Tilt. My next boat will have the Mercury t/t. I have had no problems and like the fact that the motor is not set back like on the panther. I still incorporate a strap or bungee to prevent the motor from rocking with the Mercury t/t. | |

| I have the panther lift and steer, been pretty reliable, easy to use, etc. The only prob I've had is the plastic bushings on the metal rod, need to be replaced every month, they should put brass there. Not sure how the weight would affect a smaller boat, mines a 20' glass boat, the panther places the motor back about 12", it may cause excessive weight there?

Location: Rhinelander | I agree with Rob, the Panther is a nice unit. Merc has a new 9.9 coming with a trim unit that addresses just about any concern you might have, I believe in June. Anyone know when that motor is hitting the market? | |

Location: Theresa, NY | Ok, question........I put a 9.9 merc 4 stroke on my 17 Lund Mr Pike last fall before I put it up for the winter, havent had it in the water yet. Is the trim tilt thing necessary for a kicker motor? What are the advantages and the disadvantages?

Location: Omro,Wi. | The major advantage is that with either the panther lift,or the merc trim unit is,Having a pressurized cylinder,on the trolling motor will absorb,the majority of the bouncing,and hopefully save the bracket,from breaking,while running in waves.If you have a set up with electric start,and controls up front,you don't have to go to the back of the boat,to start trolling.However if you have to pull start the motor,and hook up the steering arm,it really doesn't matter.I like leaving the strap on,and powering it up,so all the tension,keeps it from bouncing.But most of us really don't need half the stuff,we have now,so do whatever you are comfortable with...hafe | |

| Another advantage to t/t units is safety. Nothing like hanging over the back in 4 footers and lifting the motor. I have a Panther on my boat. The Merc lift works well too. | |
