Hello all.
I'm brand new to this board as of today. It's nice to read posts that aren't polluted with meaningless bickering. I would like to hear what you may have to say about walleye fishing immediately after ice out. I've never really fished this early for walleye. I've caught the tail end of walleye runs on the Wolf, but this was in late April early May waiting for the white bass run. I'm a seasoned angler, basically looking to start some dialogue on early, 33 to 42 degree water, Wisconsin River walleye. Your thoughts and words are appreciated.-Seerad

Well the walleyes up here are biting right now.
I find my best fishing is while all the other guys are still going to sport shows.
I have open water spots to fish all year long , and if I can get there I fish no matter the weather.
You should hit spring valley before all the Boys tare them up down there.
Fished it for the first time last year and had a blast.
But when I come down expect the weather to get extreme real fast.
Just my curse went down to the 20's and hail last year.

Thanks for your post. It doesnt look like many people on this board fish this system. I've been fishing this system for the last 3 seasons and the walleye have improved every year. I will be going up in a week or two. My family has a house just south of Tippery bluff. What are the chances of starting a "Wisconsin River" Regional board on this site?

The river is breaking up south of portage. With 50's in the forcast, it will be open water in no time(on the river that is). I will be heading up Thursday and fish the river mainly for walleye. If weather is good, i will mix it up and go for northern pike. This system is great for both species. Last spring we all had several fish over 26"(walleye, all cpr) and a few northern 35"+ with a few smaller muskie. We are expecting good things this year. Too bad i can't go today. I will post all of my happenings as i would like to keep the wisconsin river thread alive.-seerad

Larry,
I'll probably see you out there. Chances are, I already have. Any info on pre-spawn fishing this system? I'll be on the river fishing way before the main lake breaks up.-seerad

you have to head up river for spawning fish. alot of the fish are up before ice out. but as soon as you can get on the lake you can head up and start looking for them in the deeper holes and in slots in the channel.
