Before I purchase, are the Navionics HotMaps chips, for use with GPS, accurate or would you recommend another brand?

Depends on the lake. My home lake is no where near accurate but alot of the rest are. The map for my lake is identical to a USGS map that was made back in the 60s of my lake, and the guy who worked for the usgs at that time must have been stoned cause its no where near accurate.

Unfortunately the Navionics HotMaps got a bad rap at first when they came out because the maps that were suppied to them were pre-gps. Obviously not real accurate. It's funny because they are the same lake maps that we have used and still use but never questioned their accuarcy until GPS told us they were off. Since that time the company has worked real hard in identifying and fixing any known problems. I think that you will be happy with the new product.

I would suggest that anyone still using the older versions and are unhappy consider upgrading to the newer versions. Technology keeps getting better and better.

Purchased WI map last year and all waters I fished are accurate - I am a very happy customer.

I've been quite satisfied with mine since I got the newer version last spring. The Fox River in Green Bay is still off by several hundred yards, but once you get to the mouth and on the Bay itself, it is dead on. Bago system is good, Pewaukee, Okauchee, Silver, Wissota, and several others I've been on are very accurate too. Highly recommend these MMC's for your Lowrance product.
