| I have a couple of questions. First, how many verticle pixels does this unit display. Also which frequency works best for shallow water (say less than 20 feet deep.) Does this unit do a good job of marking fish? Thanks for your reply in advance. | |

| Owner's manual says unit displays 240 verticle pixels. I'd consider this a "middle of the road" type of count. Seeing verticle pixel counts on some new Lowrance units as high as 480, but you've got to pay up.
As far as frequencies, the 200 kHz is standard for shallow water applications, similar to 'bago. 50 kHz is often used for deep/blue water applications. This unit can be run on 200 kHz or 50 kHz, or both simultaneously, but if you don't do much in deep water (for example, Lake Michigan), you'd probably be using the 200 kHz setting almost exclusively.
I ran this unit in the same boat with my Lowrance LMS 350a for three years. While the "picture" was not as pretty, THE RAYTHEON CONSISTENTLY MARKED FISH BEFORE THE 350a PICKED THEM UP. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes, considering the price difference between the two units. Raytheon also has water temp (my 350a does not), which was nice.
If interested, please follow up here or email me at [email protected]. Do a search on the internet and see what you'd pay new. Surprised this is still around at $120!
