Alot of the guys that fish there are out of town at the WAT tournament in Bellevue, or down at the IL river right now.

bw,
I live on pool 14 and fish it year around when it is not frozen. Very good fishery for a southern pool. It benefits from a stocking program provided by a local nuclear plant, which really helps the walleye population. If you are talking fall fishing for the RCL, I would suggest locking up to pool 14, or down to pool 16. Pool 15 is small, but contains lots of rip rap shoreline. I have never fished it though. Upper portion of pool 16 is good in fall also. You can expect trolling lead or 3 ways to be most productive, but a lot depends on the flow and water temp. Hope this helps, John

Pool 15 is one of the smallest pool (or THE smallest) on the river. It is only 8 to 10 miles in length. The only drawback that I can think of is that it is such a small pool and located almost entirely within the limits of the Quad Cities, (Bettendorf, Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, East Moline) it does garner a consideralbe amount of fishing pressure. The upside is far better though. As Rooster mentioned, the whole pool is heavily ripraped, so oviously there is a lot more structure in a small area that most pools. Another bonus on this pool is the convergence of a large river (Rock River) into the pool. Like Rooster, I live on pool 14 and don't fish pool 15 with any regularity. Check with some of the local bait shops as far as where and when. Try Nicks Rod and Reel Repair in Davenport. Can get thier number from Directory Assistance.
Good luck

Average fish is probably 16 to 18 inches. There's always a chance for fish over 10 lbs. Last year (2003) there were two fish over 13 lbs that were caught (and photographed for the news paper) from pool 14. It always makes me wonder how many trophy fish are caught and the news not shared!!

People do catch walleyes on the Rock and there some good size fish caught every year. The lower section of the river has better numbers than the upper section of the river.
There are no impoundments or dams on the river but suprisingly, the first 50 or so miles of the Rock, starting at the Mississippi, would fish a lot more like a big river than anything else. Lots of deep holes with mid depth flats close by. You can boat up the river but you will not find any lakes along the way, at least on the southern stretches of the river. If you like to catfish, you would love the Rock. Lots of huge Flatheads and Channel Cats.

You are right. You can't go from the Mississippi right up the Rock. (up to the Steel Dam only)
In order to "Boat up the river" you have to put in on the Rock first.
