Location: Rhinelander | Winnebago was nearly calm this morning on the South shore as the field prepared to take off for the 45th Mercury Marine National Walleye Tournament. 287 teams are competing this year for cash and a new fully rigged Lund 1875 Impact.
The bite on Bago has been really good according to reports, and estimated as high as 34 pounds for the tournament total were offered as possible winning weights. There are a good number of 20-inch class fish, and with a kicker fish each day that weight is certainly possible, up considerably from recent Merc Nationals. The same techniques that have put walleyes in the net on Bago forever are all in play; mud, reefs, sand, and more.
The weather today looks good until after the first flight is due in, when rain chances pick up with a possible T storm tossed in.

Location: Rhinelander | Here's the top twelve and leader shots, plus big fish at 7#. The leaders actually caught TWO in the 7# class! Not much information was divulged, and the space between second and a top twenty is REALLY narrow.
The weather is going down the tubes, with rain coming in and big N/NE winds, which will make the morning takeoff and navigating the way North a challenge. Expect some serious flip-flops on the leaderboard when this is over!
The images will be available here .
