| Hey guys,
I have always fished the walleye run in the Wolf, but all the crowds just turn me off. I have not fished Winnebago early during the spawning season. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any tips on which reefs to try? Are the artificial spawning reefs any good? I am familar with the whole lake. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Location: Berlin | I always catch a few fish on the humps right out from the river mouth in Oshkosh. You will catch more fish in the river but you have a better chance for a female out there. |

Location: Omro,Wi. | My persoal choice is Long point,or Kalibus reefs,don't overlook the points,along the west side of the lake,these usually have the depth,and water temps the eyes preferr when the spawning starts.hafe |

| I personally hit the rocky shorelines all along the west side. In fact i am heading there to do just that in about 5 hours. Good night! |

| Thanks for the info guys!!!
One more question. Are you targeting thesed reefs and shorelines with live bait such as minnows with jigs and slips or are you casting with cranks? I assume minnows with jigs and slips. No one really trolls this early, correct. Thanks, again guys.

| Any of the reefs produce throughout May. Slip Bobbering as well as trolling. Pulling crawler harness' will produce limits. |

Location: Stink Town, Wisconsin | Any and all of the reefs produce fish. It's just a matter of moving reef to reef to find the walleyes. I'm heading out of Winnebago County boat landing tomorrow morning (Saturday April 10th). The fish are definately out there. I'm going prepared to drift and jig, slip bobber fish, and troll. Hopefully I can find the fish trolling spinners and cranks. If not, I'm going to bounce reef to reef looking for them on jigs and or slip bobbers. Last year I had 2 to 5 pounders trolling cranks this early, and one over 9 pounds...the key was trolling slow, like at 1 or 1.25 mph. I'll put last year's stats to the test and see if I can produce any goggle eyes the same way, this early. Good luck if anyone goes. Oh yeah, buddies of mine have a cabin on the Wolf and caught 16 walleyes this morning. Two were spawned out females about 3 feet down on wolf river rigs and cranks on cane poles. Just thought that might be valuable info for anyone who cares. Keep your line wet and powder dry. |
