Saturday at about 9 AM Sue and I are headed to Mexico. I have a time share in the Royal Islander in Cancun I have mostly left unused the last few years, but not THIS year!! Hope to fish some, and update on the action in the saltwater from one of the internet cafes in the down town malls.

Anyone else been to Cancun and fished the shallows? I am curious about what I can expect to catch. I have been out on the 'blue water' for Tuna and billfish, but have not fished the shallow stuff yet.

I haven't fished in mexico but have done extensive fishing around Islamorada, it's a blast, you'll love it. Probably Permit, Snook, etc..... Sight fishing at it's best. Nothing gets your blood pumping more than watching a school of redfish finning around and casting your jig in front of em and watching them fight over it! I'm jealous.

Sounds great, we will be there by 7:30 PM Saturday. There is a huge lagoon which is fairly shallow and full of fish. Even has some saltwater crocs in it.

Steve,
We stayed in Tulum (south of Cancun) and the shallow water fishing is fun for permit and bonefish and oh yeah, stingrays too (by accident). I used a brown hair jig with a stand up profile and a bio-salt soft plastic crab, all stuff I got from Cabelas and they worked great! The tackle, rods, reels and line is the same stuff you would use for bass, but I would recommend a longer rod (7') for a better hook set. Have fun Nav
