i was lucky enough to spend a day on the mississippi river guided by HUTCH. all i can say is that until your able to see the river from his view, and relize that there are so many little areas that can hold large numbers of fish . the day started out with me streching my luck by seeing what it took to get under HUTCHS skin. i thought up some of the worst things that could happen in the boat and put them into action. we decided to pull some cranks on leadcore. HUTCH opened up one of his crankbait boxes and set it on the seat.as i leaned over to pickup the snap off of the floor i bumped the back of the chair and guess what happened........ i knocked over his box full of #7 shad raps 200 of them all over the bottom of his lund , I said"oh great i know what im doing for the next hour" . HUTCH laughed and handed me the remote steering and said no your driving the boat. he continued to laugh and said" i`ve been wanting to rearrange that box for awhile.. so as the day went along i thought that if i bury a crank into one of his lifejackets and make it look like an accident. HUTCH was agian makeing jokes about the guy that tipped over his crank box.. now the jokes switched to the guy that snagged his lifejacket. i had one of the most enjoyable and relaxing day one could have . TIM HUTCHINSON is one of the greatest guides you could ever get out and fish with. so i wanted you guys and gals to know that if your thinking about getting over to the mississipp river and need a guide look up my good friend HUTCH. i want to thank HUTCH one more time. THANKS HUTCH YOUR THE GREATEST!!!

Larry,

I'll take that as a warning if ever I get the chance to take you out in my boat! No cranks(I don't have any anyway), and I'm leaving the half flat of crawlers in the cabin too,...friend!

it was almost comical because i really am careful while in the boat. but as fate should have it,it happened so fast. HUTCH is a good friend and i know for a fact that he is very easy going. as a guide you have to learn to control yourself. after the crank in the jacket , HUTCH began to tell me many horror stories about some past clients. i plan on booking HUTCH for a summer wingdam clinic, i need to brush up on my wingdam skills.

That was one of the funniest looks on your face partner when you dumped it. I`m glad you came out with us and watch him pick a river apart. He proves that EVERY nook and cranny can hold a walleye. Thanks for the great day. It feels good to have a fun fishing day away from tourney fishing once in awhile. It only gets better with my 2 good friends in a boat. Thanks Hutch and Larry for all the laughs.

I would have loved to been a mouse in the corner in that boat!

Larry I dont know you at all but I can tell you know youre stuff just by reading some of your posts. Now that you have been out for a day with Hutch all I can say is lookout for Larry Eaton. Actually lookout for John Mannerino...he has had the benefit of fishing with both of you. I think I might have to book a trip with Mannerino!

The times I spent with Hutch fishing and talking shop were very valuable to me. We didnt even catch that many fish on the day we went but it did not matter...the value of the education and experience remains forever. He is a great teacher and explains things thoroughly. Hutch will take the time to show you and explain why. I know of nobody else who can bring that kind of knowledge and experience to the table. And above all he maintains a great sense of humor.

Larry.

I know this is secondary, as I only know Hutch as a customer of his great jigs, but did you catch any fish? And I think me and Hutch would hit it off both personality and technique wise in the boat as well. As I get many "What the hell were you fishing there for's" at the ramp after a day on the river.

Dang guys I'm so flattered I'm blushing. I'd try to come up with something witty right now but my brain is basically mush at the moment. I think I've guided for 12 days in a row with 2 double trips in there. Between that and trying to keep up with tackle, well you know. My brain is beyound dead right now. I will say this though, yesterday we really spank the fish in the Genoa pool. We had an easy 60 fish over 15 inches. Working the pillings, the Wi. shore line below the dam and down by Victory. Also happy to say that today my handling bite finally took off. Larry, I got you figured out now. I'm gonna put bungies on all my crank boxes now. You just wanted to see how long it took me to pick up a 192 shad raps off the carpet didn't ya. Like Jack says, there ain't gonna be no live bait in my boat either, and Rocky next time we'll take your boat buddy. Anyway, I THANK ALL OF YOU for the kind words!!!!! Hutch

Sure wish you would have taken and posted some pictures of the fish and the River Rat himself.

I will tell you that Hutch has taken extremely good care of me. He was very backed up with orders before the MWC and he was able to get me the stuff I needed in time for the tourney. I have not had the pleasure of fishing with him yet but I don't think it will be too much longer. If anybody needs cranks painted or jigs made give him a call. You will be glad you did.

Got one more question for you Mississippi guys. Are those Big-Headed/Google-eyed Carp in the same waters your fishing? And if so, have you noticed any severe changes in walleye numbers, reproduction or any devastation they predicted would happen if these eating machines escape into the Great Lakes?

I am on Pool 14, northwestern Illinois. We have both Bighead and Silver carp in the river here, but not in sufficient numbers to see any real damage to the biomass as of yet. The sivlers I have seen jumping a few times last year were small, 2-4# fish. No getting rid of them I am sure. I did read a report in a paper from WI that they have found a couple of one or the other species in pool 5, but I don't have the article any longer, and can't remember what paper it was!
I am certainly not looking forward to seeing their impact on our fishery, but is another thing, like Zebra muscles, that we will have to deal with.
Hey rockman, you gonna remember all tha good stuff you are learning from Hutch and Larry when you get down my way? Maybe you could teach me a little about picking the river apart. Sounds to me like I need to book a trip with Hutch too!!!
John
