| All, I'm considering upgrading electronics this year. I decided to pass on the X-15 due to comments at several dealers that Lowrance is discontinuing the unit next year, and the units lack of compatibility with the latest Gold chips which I consider a long term investment.
I considered stepping up to an X19 for the high pixel count while maintaining the 7" screen size. In talking with my neighbor who is going through the same process, he mentioned users where experiencing viewing wash out issues in bright light with the X19. He had heard this was not an issue with the X18, or X104.
If this is true, I am speculating it is due to the fine pixel size of the X19, in comparison to the larger screen diameter utilizing the same number of pixels on the X104, and the X18 being a courser pixels small screen.
The X18 screen seems a little small to use in the split screen mode, while the X104 goes beyond practicality to even my skewed judgement in pocketbook practicality. If this isn't an issue, the X19 seems like it would be just right.
Any comments??? |

Location: vancouver wa. home of next world record bigeye | X19. Very very poor viewing in sunlight had many units in my 40a= years almost always lowrance, Still have the GREEN BOX. This is the worst I have seen in lowrance or any other unit. had to build a cardboard tunnel held up to unit to look into to see it, could not even use menu to change anything. Will have short top from windsheild back 18 to 25" 100 plus $$ HOPE THAT WORKS. so I can see it from back of boat whie running kicker. Very poor desing and extreamly missleading dam near fraudgulant advertising. Lowrance stop thinking of my bucks in your pocket or I will go garmin like many of my freinds, they love them and I am leaning that way myself. |

| I think some of the first year's models of the X-19 had a different screen than the X-18 and X-104. I believe they now come with the TFT screen, same technology as on the 18 and 104. I will contact Luke at Lowrance and get this questioned answerred. |

Location: Monona, WI | Try one of the cover visors from this company:
http://www.bmprodfish.com/
They fold down and double as a hard screen cover to protect from damage when not in use. Although not listed on their website, they do make cover visors for the larger Lowrance units. Give them a call or email them for prices. I have used these on my last set of units and they worked great to shield the screen from the sun. With one of these and a RAM mount, you can always get the screen into a position where it is easily read.

| Just took my X19 back to Cabelas this AM. I had salesperson take a new battery out side. We hooked up X19,X18 and 104 to look at OUTSIDE. What he saw was not what he was told at the seminar that Lowrance put on last year for the sales staff at Cabelas. I talked to the service staff at Lowrance yesterday, theysaid that enhanced screen was the fix.$99 for updated screen. 200 new units are on order from Cabelas. Are they the new ones or not ,they cant tell. The only diff. between the 19 and the 104 is that the 104 has a matte finish where the 19 has a mirror finish on the screen. Thats the only thing I can tell. Any other users out there please tell me what you think. Is the viewability what you expected for $1400 Thanks Much///////////// |

| I also got on board and went with a X19 this year. First timer with Lowrance. With all the hype about this unit and the cost, I have to say the viewing is terrible in the sun. For the $$$$ spent on this product their should not have to be added costs just to use it.
If any one from Lowrance is out their, give us some economical solution!!! |

Location: Eau Claire, WI | Lowrance has announced that they are doing "upgrades" for those of us that have the x-19s, not sure about the other models, contact them, the upgrade costs $99.00, and yea, I'm POed too, but I'll do the upgrade because I like the resolution and overall performance better than any others I've tried......don't want a war, just my preference and opinion.....Some are saying that they send a whole new unit because it's cheaper, but should get it from Lowrance.... |
