Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Today was Jeff's ( My oldest boy )second Pinewood Derby for Cub Scouts. Last year Jeff's car looked great, but ran so-so. He had a great time but wished he did better.
This year, well, it was different.
In the competition for the Bears Den(Jeff's age group) Jeff came in second once. But he came in first in 5 of the six heats! 5 and 1!!!
Jeff won the first place for his division, and advanced to the finals. Man was he happy! (Me too by the way, I couldn't have been happier myself! Proud Papa? Me? Yup!)
In the Finals there were 22 heats among 12 boys. None of the boys raced in them all as it was set up so each boy raced each other boy at least once.
Jeff never got another second place race. He won every one of his races in the finals! Undefeated in the finals, and Jeff was the only boy to do that!!!! Jeff smoked em all!
Man, if you thought I was a proud Papa before...... I was like about to bust!
The funny part is, when they were doing the awards for the finals, Jeff had to be called 2x for his Championship Award as he didn't even have a clue that he was the one that beat them all!
More than all that, I was so proud that he was a very good winner and Jeff felt really bad for one of his buddies who never won a race. (Actually the boy finished dead last in the whole thing. losing every one of his races.) I could not have been prouder of him, and the pride for his winning, our car design and hard work was paled in comparison for what type of competitor Jeff was.
Here are the pics, or at least some of them...Jeff's Car is the one on the right in the picture of the 3 at the starting Gate.
Jason ( My other son )was also a very big helper in building the car as well as behaving so well while at the race. I could not have been prouder of him either!
Navy Blue and Yellow...it work's for the Blue Angels and it works for us....

At first I visualized a soap box derby car. Didn't realize they even had car races with those type cars. Surprised to see that the first place trophy is indeed bigger than the rest as well. Good to see the politically correct crowd hasn't got their fingers into every facit of our kids games yet. |

| Nofish,
Congrats on the finish, but if the officials check into it, I'm affraid thry might say that the rear spoiler is at least a 1/32" above allowed measures. Hope that does not effect the final standings!!! |
