Location: Oshkosh,WI | I just added to the post I made previously under Optima Batteries because I don't want anyone to overlook this ? as I need an answer soon. I have a email into Minnkota and a few other feelers out there but w/ the wealth of knowledge here at walleyefirst I'm bettin on the answer poppin up here first. Here's the senario. I have to hookup my batteries for a 101hp maxxum bowmount and am wondering if a series connection is the way to go? Bowmount + to Battery 1 +, Batt 1 - to Batt 2 +, Batt 2 - to Batt 3 + and Batt 3 - to Bowmount -. I am planning on using the Optima Blue top D34M-950 (X3) will this be enough juice?? Help I have to have this bowmount kickin by Friday and the last thing I want to do is blow me, the boat, or it up! |

| Jack, you got it for the connections. Series connection will give 36 volts with 3 batteries. I can't say about the Optima battery, except to say, with a 36 volt motor, you will draw less current, therefore the battery's charge should last longer than with a 24 or 12 volt motor. That is assuming you need the same amount of power.
P.S. You can get some short jumpers to tie the batteries from your local Auto Store, or Fleet Farm, or even Wally Mart. They'll already have the lugs on them.

Location: Berlin | Buying my Optima's was one of the best decisions of the year so far. I have the yellow tops and let me tell you, they are awesome. They last ATLEAST twice as long. For those of you that know me, I live by my bowmount and I have not run out of power yet. The best part is that my bowmount is too small for my boat and now it handles it perfectly. Like Shep said, your connection is right. You will love the batteries! |

Location: Oshkosh,WI | Thanks Guys - I had found out that this is the proper way to do it w/ a important exception - between the positive line in from the bowmount you need to place a proper sized fuse about 7'' from the first battery - Also I can't say enough about Remy batteries outta Milwaukee. What an incredible deal they gave me on 4 Blue tops. Thanks to those who indicated to go there on prior threads - Remy has a rule of thumb apparently - - ask for a deal and you get it when purchasing more than 1 battery!!
Thanks again. Rich S. I believe I will meet you and your wife on Sunday. (WWA) Looking forward to it!! |

| Yes, Jack, the Remy guys are a great group. Sorry I didn't mention the fuse. I run a circuit breaker on mine. Bolts to the battery terminal, and then out to the TM from there. |
