We just heard that the Army Cory of Engineers has started to release more water from Ft. Peck dam. By Monday it will be running at 11,000cfs, presently it is at 6,500cfs. The dam only has 6,000cfs coming into it. Montana has entered its 5th year of drought. Ft. Peck previsously had a low of 2208 ft , this past Feb it was dropped to 2204 ft, currently the lake is at 2205.4 (2246 ft is full pool) within a very short time there will not be a usable ramp on the lake. We have tried to talk with the Corps but as usual we have only been met with silence or a bunch of BS. We have a lame duck govenor who is afraid to do anything about this. It was our understanding that there was not going to be barge traffic on the upper river this year and that they were going to slow down the release of water. Oh well! just ranting and raving a little bit here. Sorry about that. It's just that Ft Peck has been my favorite place to fish for years and to see it now It's just saddening. Pray for lots of rain soon or the downstream dams and lakes are next. Mike Combs Lewistown, Mt

That's bad news my friend. We had the pleasure to fish the PWT there in '98. We really enjoyed the hospitality. The fishing was great despite the 106 degree temps. Draining all that water to float a few barges makes no sense at all. Here's hoping that you folks get enough rain to get that water level back up. I also hope that the Corps comes to their senses real soon. The Ft. Peck area is pretty neat and we hope to get back there some day.

Looks like things are not going to improve for you much in the way of coming rain. The southeast was in a drought too, and things ARE easing up some there, so there is hope. Let us know how much the overall pool drops.
