Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Just talked to Jack Dunn on his cell phone as he was leaving the RCL launch area. Jack, Rick Larson and I are scheduled to fish together Monday on the Tittabawassee River near my house and on my home charter waters.
He said they canceled day two of the RCL because of the bad windy weather, so we might as well extend our planned fishing time to include a day or night on the Saginaw Bay. He said guys yesterday were coming in broken up pretty bad from the waves on Erie. Winshields and kicker motors were being broken badly. I guess one guy stalled in the launch area and his boat was broken up on the rocks with little anybody could do.
The SW winds they met this morning was right in the face of the launch area again. And the gusts to 35MPH predicted again today finalized the decision. So the first 20 teams from yesterday will move into the day three finals tomorrow, weather permitting.

But Jack said it was the FLW's (or something like that) call, and that the RCL guys wanted to proceed. Now thats just what Jack told me, so don't put the (fish eye) on me for saying so.
And thanks Richfish. I may have a surprise for Rick and Jack when they get here. I've been invited to fish Port Sanilac for some kings and browns on Sunday aboard my buds 25' Proline. If I play my cards right and the weather cooperates, I might get them boys on board if they want.

Location: blue mounds, wisc | i think that all the people that was planning on fishing at least two days are a little mad. you pay alot of money for entries and travel, only to be sent home. i think that everyone should of been sent out and the top ten fish on saturday. the guys that were in the top twenty sure dont mind but chances are that there would of been a huge flip flop in the leaderboard and they would be going home also. i think that when major trails go to the great lakes that there should be a bad weather day scheduled so everyone can have there fair chance to win.looking at the weights the top fifty were within six pounds of the cut. anyone of them could of made the top ten after today... |

Location: Neenah, WI | I'll agree with you on the first part of your post. They should send them all out today if possible and keep the top ten. Having a blow day would cause problems for motels and travel. Being able to only fish 1 day really hurts. |

| Dan,
Jack's wrong.
Sonny based his decision on the advice of the Coast Guard. He spoke with them three time that morning....every half hour in fact. The small craft advisory never not got lifted, and it wasn't going to be lifted.
Sonny is the tournament director for the RCL, which I'm sure you already know. It was his call. He did speak with the FLW guys, but it was only to tell them what his decision was and how to proceed with the cancellation of the day. Boat boards had to be picked up etc.

I and Jack stand corrected. I'm guessing that Jack seen Sonny when he was talking to the FLW director and then assumed it was his decision when they canceled it soon after their conversation. Also good to know you and I can still communicate after my recent personal decisions on certain matters.
Bummer the way things worked out in the tourney. With 18 pounds and some change, I was hoping Rick could have fished at least another day to give himself a decent chance.

Location: Milw, WI | What they should have done is......
Let everybody fish today.
Make the top 20 cut.
They fish the next day(sat.) and where you place is where you place.
Just a larger weight in on Sat.
No top ten cut needed.
Kind only seems fair. |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | This is JLDII replying on Captain Dan's computer. The miscommunication is that Dan did not understand who was who when I explained how Mark and Sonny did not nessisarily agree about us fishing yesterday. I tried to explain that Mark would have probably let us go, but that Sonny wouldn't.
Not any big deal, simple miscommunication is all.
