Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Just got back from the MWT weigh-in. The new comer and my own cousin Mike Manyen gave them boys a run for their professional money. Mike weighed in 25.79 yesterday and 27.41 today to finish 5th or 6th place. I actually left before the very end to make it home for the barbacue at the neighbors. The team of Gilman & Gilman put together a 2 day total of a little over 60 pounds to win it. Heres a few pictures. First one is Mike and the second his catch in the revival tank. The last of the winners on stage at the end.
Both days were fished in high waves and strong winds. (what a shocker for Saginaw bay hey?) All the big catches came from places 14 miles or more North of the launching point at Hoyles Marina. XPS keel weights and harnesses were the winning ticket.

| Just got back home from that back breaker of a tourney, not sure how we finished, 20# and 15# probably somewhere in the middle of the pack....bummer. Man, that Bay never ceases to amaze me.....ran all the way to AuGres took an hour and 20 minutes to get there day 1 plus I'm sure at least 4 trips to the chiropractor....On the way back on Day two it only looked like maybe 3 footers max but there is just something about the waves on the Bay that will rock your world. Anyways, had a great time, can't wait to get back up there next month, two two day tourneys, hopefully my back is healed! |

The Bay can tear the guts out of the best boat and the toughest competitors. Sorry I missed you. But I also missed Gary (BO) Bowman for both days at the weigh-in. And I watched every boat come into the marina. I'm starting to think he fished a different tournament with the same name. Or he never came back the the weigh-in site either after each day.

I'm not that good yet. Seems I had it wrong. Gilman and Gilman took second place and Hoffman and Hoffman came in first with 59 pounds even, and not the 60 and change I posted. Being I had to leave early, I was doing my own calculation. But my cousin Mike did indeed come in 5th with 52.93 pounds.
The pictures of course were not estimated. |

Location: Westland, MI. | Hi Capt. Dan, Nope, I didn't fish a different tournament. Went over to Pinconning Bar and pulled 3 dink fish in 15 minutes. Worked the area til 9:00 and lost 1 more but of no size. Made a real stupid decision and decided to run to Au Gres. On the way, encountered problems with my GPS. Had a hand held on board so was trying tp punch in numbers to fishing site when we encountered a boat in distress. Team Ayres was in trouble. As I'm trying to get a fix and let the MWT headquarters know where and what's happening. Bill cranks up his kicker motor and takes off. And then everyone is out looking for him and I couldn't let them know where he was. I could only give a general direction. Was really concerned all day for their safety, and I guess they got back safe. Broke my Panther bracket and my left windshield came apart. Was 12 minutes late coming in and lost our weight. Didn't want to screw up my kicker. Didn't matter much anyway. My body feels like first day of football practice and everybody had pads but me. Alas, I'm learning this is a young man's sport and Saginaw Bay can be a great reminder. I have one more up your way in early August. I'm looking forward to seeing my friend Rick Larson and also, Jim and John Dolly, who are all competing in MWC, hopefully the wind will not be a factor this time. Take care Dan, sorry we missed connections, Talk to you soon, Bo |

Good thing you made it through Alive Bo!
That windshield thing also happened on my boat and you'll need to take it apart and re-inforce it - as they used cheap screws to attach it. Also I have adapted a latch for the swing part of the windshield that will strengthen it further and can send one your way if you'd like.
I have some other news pertaining to my boat (Bo has a sister boat to mine), will have to wait until we talk. The WF Gods are deleting my posts at the slightest hint of controversy...:-) |

Location: Westland, MI. | Hi Rick, Nice to hear from you. It wasn't anything but real rough water that did it. I had a screw come out of the windshield on the bottom and didn't see it. I through bolted all major screws in windshield. I just came apart but did not break. I'll have it fixed today. Other than components coming apart (panther bracket, also) my boat was awesome in weather conditions almost as bad as we were in in Dunkirk, NY, last year. As I mentioned in previous post, I am amazed how sore I am though. I could hardly walk yesterday. And that was due to standing and fighting fish in the waves. Also, a little jostling coming 23 miles in solid 4 to 5 footers, didn't help any. Anyway, we'll talk today. Take care, Bo
