i fish mostly off shore, doing pretty well where i fish and always catch 1 or 2 over my limit. however, after the 4 of july i cant catch anymore where i fish off shore. they just seem to dissapear and im left with catching carp, sheep head, and catfish for the rest of the summer. im sure you all know how it is when all the runs are over. but im debating on getting a boat and taking it out on the lake to find the walleyes. what im wondering is......do you suggest trolling or casting? i dont know anything about trolling and would really want to stay away from that until next year.

You answered the question yourself!

If you want to cast, wait until a good chop on the water and cast the tops of the rock reefs. That jointed Shad Rap is an easy casting bait that will tick the rocks without hanging up.

And by the way, after July 1st, the fishing gets tougher and trolling is a good way to seek out and find walleyes!

silvrbak, If you want to fish bago after the 4th you really need to search for the eyes it gets pretty tough out there! I would go to trolling in the late summer, but better yet get the Honey-do list done in preparation for the fall, and sneek in a bit of Lake Michigan fishing.
Good Luck
