My 75 Mariner (2 str) just had the impellor replaced. When I first start it and at WOT the pee stream is strong. But after trolling for a few minutes, the stream is reduced to a dribble. Is this normal?
It also did this when I had the old impellor too.
Any ideas?

It might be that the water outlet tube is partially blocked by some kind of debree.

Try starting the motor while attached to a muff and a garden hose. Let the engine idle until the stream slows. After it slows take a paper clip or a wire that will fit in the water outlet and poke the wire/clip in the outlet several times. Usually this will clear any junk that might be obstructing the hole.

If it seems to help but doesn't solve the problem, stop the motor, remove the hose from the outlet fitting on the lower cowl and then restart the motor. Let the engine IDLE again and try and straiten the hose, pinch softly and other wise try and work any type of debre loose. It might be helpful to have a partner hold the loose hose in a safe direction while starting the motor. The water should be very warm but not HOT. If it does "clean out" let the motor idle for several minutes with the clean water from the hose. This will flush and clean the entire water intake, exhaust system. I ussuall do this a couple of times a year or whenever I have been in an extremly weed area.

While you are at it this is a good time to remove the prop and check for fishing line, weeds and whatever else likes to get wrapped on the prop shaft.

Good Luck.

Good advice T-mac. A bottom bouncer works great to get up in there too.

My question is I just cleared mine a few days ago and it is peeing great now, however, the water coming out does seem to be a lot warmer than it used to be. Should I be concerned? I thought if it was peeing good everything was flushing through properly. The water seems to be too hot.

If that dos'nt work try a piece of weeder eater line long enough to reach the fitting that goes into the upper end of motor I've seen small debrie clog this fitting.I carry a some all the time.

Pee Stream,
If you are concerned about the H2O temp have it checked by a trusting local mechanic. I believe there is a thermastat incorperated into the cooling system. Perhaps it is time for a new one.

Good Luck.

I dont know if your motor has it by my 96 merc 150 has a removable plastic cap next to pee hole that you can remove and attach garden hose to it and back flush the cooling line. If the poking of the water inlet doesnt work maybe this is worth a try.
