Losing my Dad

The guy who taught me SO much about life and business and gave me the love of fishing and golfing that I have so imbedded in my person, who gave me my sharp wit and equally sharp tongue will lose his battle with skin cancer very shortly. I ask for your prayers that this warrior from the greatest generation make his 88th birthday on Thursday and then that he passes without having to go through the pain and suffering all too common in the last days of a fight such as this. He's ready to go, we've had that talk. He's a good man, albiet far from perfect, but then aren't we all.

Doc,

My thoughts are with you, my last grandfather is in similar health and the same age. He has gone through skin cancer, lost a kidney to cancer, suffered a stroke and the last time the cancer came back they decide not to treat it, which was over six months ago. At his last Doctor's appointment they wanted to know if we wanted them to contact hospice, I'd just like him not to suffer any more.

Doc.

Just about ten years ago, September of 94, my father passed away from the effects of skin cancer. Fortunately, when he was diagnosed in 1989 we made a pact... To spend as much time together as possible fishing and hunting... we kept that promise. So, when it was over I had a lifetime of good memories and some really great ones in those last years... We never missed fishing the "opener" together... we spent two weeks in Minnesota every summer and hunted ducks numerous days and weekends... In between all those special trips were rooutine days of just being together... Years ago for Father's Day I bought him a framed print of a father and son fishing together on some small stream... It bore this phrase; "In a moment shared...my father became my friend". It is one of my most cherished possessions. Sounds like you and you Dad could say the same. You and your Dad have my thoughts and prayers.

Doc.

I won't pretend we see eye to eye on everything. But loosing my father when he was only 54 years old and I 27, had an impact on me that took the better part of 10 years for me to get over. My dad raised me and my brother for 16 years all by himself after he fought for our custody. I'm not sure having the 30 extra years you got with your father would have made the loss for me any easier. But in this messed up world of so many fatherless children, we are/were indeed the luckiest ones.

God bless you and your family Doc. My dad passed when he was 66 and I was 22. It is tough to deal with but I do think God has a master plan. Your Dad will be sitting with you in your favorite fishing hole the next time you go out. Remeber to look up and smile back at him. He will be happy to see you carry on the tradition he taught you so well.

Sounds like your dad is a great guy and will be missed. I know I miss mine alot. Death is part of living. It hurts but that is the way the big man upstairs sees it. I lost both my parents 6 months apart 6 years ago to cancer. If you would like to talk about it give me a call.847-875-9979. Trust me it helps you get thru it.

Doc,
You and your family are in my prayers, I went through the same thing with my mom a couple years ago. She actually was the one that got me hooked on fishing. I know it's tough.

Doc, I also know how you are feeling. I lost my mother to cancer last year, and it was the toughest time of my life. Feeling so helpless and inadequate, but those are normal feelings and God's way of teaching us to lean on Him. Ours prayers are with you and your family. We will also be praying for those left behind. It is so great to hear that you had such a good relationship with him. So few are as lucky as those of us who have so many memories to cherish. Hang in there, and keep your head up!
